Perris Riders PriDle for Po;n's MATTAWA CROSS COUNTRY DRAWS 613 RIDERS By Bob Laird By Elaine Jones PERRIS, CAL., oct. 18, 1969 - The rIders were in top form Saturday night and out to get primed for Sunday's point run. Bill Dobbs (Kaw) repeated last week's win In the lOOcc Novice class and has one more win to capture and he will become an Amateur for the Perris track only. Wayne Whisenant (Yam) almost took the gold from Blll but blew it when he took a splll on the back jump and had to settle for second. Richard Draudt (Suz) was third and Jim Howerton (Kaw) fourth. . Mark Revels has found the slot with his new Kawasaki and repeated his win from last week and had to catch the band1capped 50ccs to do it and hold off Dan Johnson (Kaw) who was right on his taU. Dan settled for second and Larry Lewis (Yam) who gets everything out of his flfty hung In there to take third. Micky Jones (Kaw) was fourth. The fur flew In the 100cc AmateurExpert from the first heat on. Bob Kline (Suz) led the first heat going away and looked like he was well on his way. The second heat proved too much for the bike and Bob was out of it. Doug Mason(Kaw) took over the leader's spot and let the rest of the riders stir it up behind him and that they did. When the dust settled Rob Morrison (Kaw) was second with Kirk McDowell (Hon) and Bob Sanders (Kaw) third and fourth. This class Is a crowd pleaser with the cream of the 100 riders and they really put on a good show. The l25cc's had a duel between Pul Lambert Jr. (Yam) and Jim Kline (Yam) with the first place going back and forth. Paul had enough to take it and Jim had to settle for second. Jon Mudd (Yam) was third and Key Kanak1 (Yam) fourth. The Yamaha is the bike to beat in this class and so far it ain't been done. The 175-25Occ class had some new faces and a bike that Is really more for motocross showed It could TTtoo. Jerry Ayers on a Husqvarna took home first place and held off Frank Eggers (Yarn), Mike Myers (Yam) and Jerry Leighton (ossa) to do it. The 250cc class read like carbon copy of last week save one place. Ron Bourbonnais (Kaw) was first followed by Bob Greenstreet (Bul) second. Greg Wickam (Bul), the new face sneaked through to pick up third' and Larry Stapleton (Yam) rounded it out with a fourth. The 250cc Amateur-Expert class had more Novices than Experts. Frank Eggers (Yam) was first with Dennls Creason (Bul) fully recovered from his broken collarbone second. Doug Mason (Yam) the only Expert was third and Bob Kline (Yam) fourth. The wide Open Novice moto again went at it tooth and toenail and it was anybody's race. Mark Bailey (Hon) started it off by taking the first heat but it was short lived when Chuck Tidwell (Mal) turned around and took the second heat. The third saw Chuck slip through and grab off first place with Mark second and Paul Lass (Mal) third. Bruce Prior (H-D) was fourth. Another mix-It-up came In the Amateur- Expert moto with Mike Posey having to really get with it to hold off Tony Denlus (H-D) and Vlnce Graves (Mai). Tony Denlus broke down so at the wire it was between Vlnce and Mike. Posey came out on top, Vince was second and Loyal Penn after dolng a one and a half over the handlebars still had enough to take third. Andy Skeel (H-D) was fourth. Q", PERRIS TOO NOISY, SAY NEIGHBORS Perris is In danger of being closed down as the Burtons have been served with a Noise Abatement Complaint for running after eleven o'clock. Any of you who have ever been to Perris know that It ts located far away from town and almost as far from any residence. It leads one to believe that the whole thing ts a party's personal dtsllke than an actual nuisance. The two times Perris ran late were due to accidents where the ambulance had to leave the track and even then they flnlshed by eleven- thirty• Perrts has been In oPeration slnce 1954 so anyone building In the area was well aware that a motorcycle track was In the viclnlty and this Is what seems so unfalr. What Is happening when peoPle can move Into an area that has a track or a dairy or anything else and In a few years decide they don't want it and force it out of business. This is not right or falr and the blame should be placed on those In charge of city planning not on those who have the business. We as riders and fans can show our support for the track, the Burtons and the sport by writing a letter to Judge WUkerson, Perris Justice Court, Perris, California. Be sure to let them MOW racing means to you, how far you drive to enjOy It and your occupation. Here Is a chance for all of us to help further the cause of cyclists and help preserve one of the first and flnest tracks In Californla. Do your thing people, as this is what It is all about.
