Wilson Unbeatable At, Poso Park Story and Photos by. Jack Light POSO PARK, ,CAL., Oct. 5. 1969 - The W1lson-Greeves combination was unbeatable at one of Caliiornia's newest motocross courses when the K.C. Trailblazers presented races at their Poso Park site on Sunday. Oct. 5. The remarkable Jim WUson, riding beautifully prepared Greeves machines proved to be the man to watch. 'Ibis young man, truly an exceptional rider, mastered this Poso Park course in good order. Jim won ail six of his races. thereby being awarded first place in the 250 Sr. class and first place, Open Sr. class. Jim. riding out of Nick Nicholson Motors, Inc. North Hollywood, displayed skill and perhaps some showmanship that certainly was appreciated by the spectators and riders alike. The Kern County Trail-Blazers M.C. after many months of reapir and preparation to the flood damaged Poso Park course. produced a most challenging Motocross circuit. The huge 125 Jr. class was divided into two divisions. over 75 riders in this class alone. The Yamahas ofR. Matheny. and Grossln1 bested the Bultaco of G. Yarbrought in the first group, with D. Bevans and his Penton victor over Rick Mears and his Sachs in group two. The rough going through the river bed sand took its toll of the smaller bikes. The 125 Sr. class was next on the line. 'Ibis was a series of hard fought races and closer competition resulted. The Sachs of E. Cannady carried him to victory, followed by Creager, Yama1Ia mounted. with another Sachs ridden by R. Yinger gaining third position. The 250 Juniors were next up, with R.E. Paxton winning on a Yamaha and W. Dekking and J. Morris crossing for second and third. 'Ibis class had thirtysix riders leave the start line at the same time and they really had the sand flying. The 250 Sr. class had seven!i!1en at the start. with Jim Wilson putting the Greeves In front position each time and never really being pushed. Dennis Keefe and his HuskY looked really good, with true motocross style and so did B. Grossi also riding a Husqvarna. The Open Jr. was also a full field and the Husqvarnas of S. Benedict. and J. Lambert dominated this class winning first and second places. . The race of the day had to be the last Open Sr. go around'. Again Jim WUson out sped the field for a perfect start. Around they went. under the "over and under bridge". up the wash. over the rise. through the Ess turns. around the off-camber turn and over the bridge. Walt Axthelm and his Metrsse. could not catch the leader. Walt is certainly worthy of second place,. and he rode a flawless race. M. spier and his Malco crossed for third.
