F1IIIIIY tb1Dg Is tbat rarely Is aayoae w1tb a tl6g bore caught In the l1cbtwe1gbt class but the lightwe1gbts del1gbt In moving up- gins tbem a feeling of power, I guess,lo wallop on some of the big bores. The competit1oD In the 250 class Is every bit as iough as the 500 and the truth Is that when you own a truly nne motocross macb1ne, there Isn't always that much difference between the performance of a 250 and the 360-on-up size. So let's ride where we belong. Don't forget the Powder Put!Assoclatlon's scrambles Is advertised as a rough one, so let's not have anyone showing up at Perris and then snlvel1Dg !leeause they thought It was a TT. The advertising Is out so there's no excuse for not knowing. The last rough one thrown there turned out well In spite of some troubles when some of the 40 inchers found the going a bit tougher then they expected but it's a neat course to ride. C.I. 90805. rRAfatES PERRIS, CAL. oct. 4, 1969 - Whole bunches of new Novices are showing lIP at Perris which seems to be the place to make that all Important solo run. Walt Foster, a seventeen year old who halls from Colton, did just that about six months ago and his feelings were that he would never go fast enough. Walt bas overcome that fear as he bas been a constant f1n1sher In the toP four. Right now he is riding a lOOcc Suzuki but wonld llke to add a new 250cc Kawasaki Gl'eenstreak to his racing stable. How Walt t1nds the time to race Is a mystery as he goes to school from seven to five and on Saturdays works at the Two Wheeler as a mecban1c. '!bat doesn't leave much time for work on his own, His folks are just luke warm on his raciug even though his Dad used to race. But I noticed Mr. Foster was right there on tile spot when something went wrong. Walt's tuture looks as busy as his present. He plans a career In Oceanography. "01' Bounce Back", Bruce Yoakam, was not as seriously hurt as the ambulance driver thought and Is bacl: In the thick of It. He's a lot like EJrPerl Tony Den1us. 11 he can't crash at least once during the races It's a bad n1gb1. David Edge said he felt like he was ready to throw up as be sat on the line tor the t1rst time on his new Kawa.sald 100. He most have overcome the feeUng as he bad a t.I!tb place wben his t1rst beat was completed, David' 5 Dad and brotber are credited with g1v1nc him the bug and since he l1ves In Arlington right across the street from Lion's Head he had tile perfect set up for getting the feel of what It's lUte to ride a dirt course. The Edges ban what they call tile family fifty which Is tile tra1n1ng trike for everyone. From the f1fty the next steP Is an S- 90 and then the thorougbbred of the bunch, the 100. Dad, wf10 Is also for the sport, admitted be bad once been a Hell's Angel but said that they don't give you anytbing and It's a gathering place for 1nsecure people. He feels that Sportsman r1d1ng Is a sport where father and son can really work together and be a team. If David keeps riding llke his t1rst time the EdgeS are going to .s SONlCIELD ~ rx~1 tr.es- nlJd at spnlll" fibofttass tan & SOIlS. Bob Greenstreet who bas wanted a Triumph for as long as 1 have known him got to pilot MIke Posey's big 650 In the final beat and basIl't come back to earth yet. He felt his wife Dottle shonld have presented him with one when she bad her last baby but he settled for their first son. 1f he bad been a girl ••• ! We have another llttle one. Not quite as small as Randy Hayes but not much bigger. Both are eleven but Jeff Sor~ son weighs In at 90 pounds and Is four feet nine. The saying bigger and better doesn't somehow fit. It's more llke smaller and taster. Jeff rides a Honda 50 and he graduated to tbIs from a minibike. He would have been out sooner but according to him his bike broke down and It took "three weeks and seven days to fix It." Jeff thinks I'aC.1nc Is pretty neat but said he was a llttle seared on the starting line. He llkes school 0 K but is waiting for Saturday every week. Dad llkes the racing fine but Mom Is scared so she won't be looking too much. Jeff hopes to also get a Ka wasaId 100 but saId It w1ll probably take a year, so the lOOcc riders bad better get their licks In no... as tbIs competitor won't be on anyone's menu. Gerry Burton tried to give the riders a chance to govern themselves Saturday and was sadly d1saWo1nted when an over-zealous mother got Into the act and out-voiced everyone. The dispute sbould bave been settled between the two riders themselves with no outside Interference. The riders Dlvolved are two nice kids and so are their parents but It was not the parent's place to butt in.
