Smith was forced to head for the outside wall at full throttle. The rookie let go just before his machine climbed the wall. Dave was examined and came uP with two bruised and swollen knees and watched the national half mlle the following night from a wbeelcha1r• All of the California riders are not at bome for the rest of the season and a record entry is predicted for this Friday night for the TT events. The final TT race, for the '69 state championshiP title, runs the last Friday night In October. The state half mlle title Is on the. line the next night for the last twin bill of the season at Ascot. "KeIth Mashburn led the Amateur final from start to finish, leaving the nation's top two Amateurs, Don Castro and Dave Aldana, to battle for second. Castro came out on top with Aldana in tblrd. The first attempt found Ted Loogwith with a big lead at the end of four laps. For some unknown reason Ted fell off on the front straightaway with DO other rider even close. Longwith played a walt1ng game that brought out !be black flag for a restart. It backfired on him and he was off In suth place with Hateley and Jim Raymond work1ng their Montesas hard. It was Hateley's race with Raymond drop- practice and kept It uP rlgbt througb !be EllPert flnaJ. SkIp Van Leeuwen and Dusl;y Coppage again went at It bammer and tongs In !be feature with Coppage leading until be was bounced hard by SkIp. Dusty !ben tried at least twelve dUferent ways to regaJn the lead but fell of! on the 8th lap, got bacl< uP; and stlll flnLsbed ahead of rookie Ron Pierce. The only dent in the Triumph streak came when Da1las Baker and his BSA outran Van Leeuwen in the Trophy Dash.
