LAS VEGAS, NEV., Sept. 14, 1969 Skidding over a sandy motocross, the
Checkmates M. C. stirred up the dust in
Las Vegas, Nev., last Sunday, Sept. 14.
The sand didn't seem to bother Casey
Folks who managed to win both the 125
and the 250 Amateurclasses,flrstriding
a Sachs and then a Husky. Seconding him
in the 125 Amateur and Expert class was
Peter Buck on a Hodaka. In the 250
Amateur and Expert class, Amateur
Steve Fuller came in second riding a
Bultaco.
Steve Shaw of Shaw's Cycle Shop flew
over the mile long course on a CZ to an
easy win in the 500 Novice class. Following in the dust was Husky mounted Nick
Thomsen for second, and Jim Johnson
for third.
Tom Craig (Yam.) got the victory flag
in the 250 Novice, but John Harber,
second on a CZ, might have changed the
story had not his bike fouled a plug.
Soaring on his Eagle 4Q5, Tim Kaiser
led the other three riders in the beginning of the 500 Amateur and Expert
class. But Kaiser crashed, and he and
his bike flew separately for about 65
feet. The end result was Tom Scales
took first, Robert Lea fintshed second,
and Kaiser recovered for third.

Rick Woods Leads
In u.s. Speedway
Championship

Official results received from the
American Speedway Control Board show
Rick Woods with a good chance of retaining his U.S. Speedway championship.
Riders are given points in all races ridden the entire year, and the rider with
the most points at the end of the season
is the U.S. Champion. Steve Bast was
leading the point race until about a month
ago when he took a vacation from speedway racing and lost the lead. Steve has
now moved back uP to third place with
365 points, but second place Sonny Nutter
is ahead of him by only four points with
