00 l ~ ""' ~ ~ ~ U G By John Shedd ORANGE, CAL. Sept. 10, 1969 - Tim Hart, disp1aytng great style, brought his two orange Montesas in for the 250Cc and the 500cc Senior class wins at the ACA motocross at Sadd1ebIck, Sunday. As if that wasn't enough be also snatcbed up the 125cc Senior class on b1s Sachs. The SlIddleblu:k course was in Its typical rutty, SIIIIdy, marhiey, dusty, bad sbape. It was a bit shorter than usual and quite fast. The stralghtaway just before tile upblll finlsh was fast and squlrrelY and several riders hit the turf here wblle traveling very rapidly. Even a much used and abused course can't prevent Wes Cooley and the ACA from putting on a good race. The ACA crew got things rolJ1ng around noon, and they ran everything so smoothlY that all nine classes had run three motos by four o'clock. Sportsman and Senior riders raced together in the 125cc and 250cc classes. Sound found this not to their liking, but there was oniy a handful of Seniors in these two classes, and H did tend to perk up the spectator Interest. Action started with the 500cc Seniors. Klyomaru Kato won the first moto on a C Z, but had to setUe for third overall. Tim Hart brought b1s Montesa in first in the last two legs to pick up the win and, the consistency of Mark Blackwell on his CZ proved good enough for second overall. The 250Cc classes ran two divisions in the first two motos with the high point riders moving to the final third moto. Tim Hart had little trouble winning his two first motos with CZ riders Bruce _lIS '" De S.dlebadl ParI< f _ _ s. . . '" _ PlIlI racme III'" (6) RM}'an1 popped T1. Ibrt. III _ . . . Bruce bested ChUCk, but tIlen blew It all In the final leg. The second 250Cc division was Mike Runyard's all the way in the first two motos with Bultaco Bomb Tom Rapp snapping at the heels of the American Eagle all the way. It appeared that the final leg would be a duel between Hart and Runyard but, It proved to be Mike's hard luck day. As the starter's flag fell Mike's hand.released the clutch and his chaln (a new one) snapped. By the time he replaced It there was little hope of catching the flying Hart. Baron had grabbed the lead at the start but dumped It on the fir st lap and Tim zoomed Into the lead. Chuck Lunde totaled up second place points behind Hart, and Tom Rapp earned third overall for his efforts. It would seem that Mike Runyard had had enough bad luck for one day, but his problems in the 250Cc class kept him from reaching the starting line in time for the final leg of the 125cc class. He had won the first two motos of his division but he had to start a lap behind. With only five laps on such a short course he never had a chance to catch up. Tom Rapp had won the first two motos In his division, and he was way out in front on the last when mechanical woes in the form of lost parts put him out of the race. Tim Hart pulled Into the lead and captured his third place of the day, and Penton mounted Ron Fry edged out Mike Runyard on points to take second.
