By Maureen r.- Those of you who enjoyed watchiDg Bryan Wade ride bere last year will be happy to know tbat be is the new British 250Cc Cbampion. "Wild Wade" as they call bim In Bligbty is still betDg frowned uPOO and at this writing still won't be allowed to ride tile Inter-Am series, but by becoming British Cbampioo be prO'f'ed tba.t be is indeed not a "secood string rider" a title bestowed on him not too long ago by a distributor 01 a rtnJ firm's bikes. Even if !be MICUS lllln on Wade is not lifted in time tor him to ride bere there are some stormy seas abead tor tbat orpnization as we know tba.t two . otber grouPs witll a lot 01 pull besides Gretm!s are unbaPPY witll tile _y FIM business is conducted ill this country by MICUS and are gotnc to do sometb1Dg about it, or at least attempt to. It probibits some of the Engllsb siars from com1nc bere. and reaDy miJdDg tbings uP on tile track. In Belgium in one race be admits tile mud was awful and like every Southern Californian you don' t develop into a "mudder" because most of the time it's scarcer than hens teetlll But "Feets" says this particular day be really got a thrill because the crowd was cheering bim on all around' tile cirC!llit but probably because be tell c:ll so IIl8lIY times! We know it was cbeers 01 encouragement/ Jl any other DIstrict around tile country bas tile Ir:ind of troubles we do bere In District 37 we'd sure like to hear trom you. Our scrambles are plagued quite often with too many bikes, too much sitting around waiting for your ride and days tbat just drag on trom early morning t1l dark. Maybe the European system 01 pre-entry will be the _y to go eventually, I don't know, but all you bear from riders are tile same old cOlllPlaints. Trouble is, lIOIIe of us can come uP witb any solutloos eJU:ePtwbatooJyatewclubs have tried and tba.t is tile mass start race wb1ch tightens uP tbe day's program but is actually IUepl. Tracks to throw races at are ill the news again. There Is one owner wbo speaks out quite frankly tbat be cannot make any mooey wilen he al10ws a District club to throw a race tbere and is seriously considertnc dropplng all point _ t i l at his track, bo-.er, he will coot1Dae to lbrow his own scrambles. There is another track wbose tees tor track reatal are bieber than the others so clubs feel they daren' t risk it and end 141 broke. Just figure out some day about how much a club has to pay to throw a pointrun, bow mue/I hassle they have throwing it, and bow much profit tIley make and it will give you a real case 01 the will1es1 The desert brigade have it made. Usually over 300 entries, tile use 01 the land Is free and all they pay is tor an ambulance and trophies. Somehow we just have to flnd a workable system. You can't very well turn around and tell a track owner how much rent be can charge because payments on land, plus taxes vary. Insurance is pretty stable as a race is a race regardless of where it is beld, but we teel tba.t some sort 01 a level could be agreed \IlOII wbere It would be fair to all concerned. Currently, all track owners are tor tile betterment of tile sport but there could come a day when clubs could not find a track to rent because the owners are throwing their own events. They will al_ysgets\lPPOrt but It won't belp those of us who believe in the system of theAMAandtheDistrict 37 Sports Committee and lake pride in lowering tbat number on tile plate a liWe eacb year. The DIstrict could turn around and pull all the riding cards 01 riders wbo ride these un-sanct1oned events but ooce we were shut out, It still wouldn't beJp the problem, would it? So, aD 01 us, club members or not bad better do a uWe tbinIdng now. Any ~?
