Fee CARSON CITY, NEVADA, Sept. 1, 1969Road r1d1ng motorcyclists trom the Mex1ca.n Line to the Canadtan Border, along the Western Coast, and the states of Nevada and Artzooa fiocked to Carson City, Nevada, for the Labor Day Weekend· Bonanza Tour promoted by the Committee tor Better Motorcycling. The entire event was threatened when the Internal Revenue Service padlocked the Mint Casino which bad been the planned site tor the three day rally • Howard Eble, bead cheese of the CBM, Torslen Hallman Racing, Inc. w t Coast Dlsl. lOJ .. PENTON ....cycles all plans were flrm untll the week before the run. Following a trantic search and qu1ck negotiations, the motorcyclists were directed trom the Mint to the Carson Hot Springs Casino located near the alrport on the north side of the cil;y. When the riders checked In at the Hot Springs, they tound that their entries bought many extras Includl:ng coupons trom the Golden Nugget and the Silver Spur tor hreakfasts, drinks, and bets. For a $3.50 entry tee, each rider walked a_y from the table with $4.80 In coupons, a very attractive rally pin, a meal ticket, and the opportunlty to take bome a trophy. After the riders signed In, they tound they were free tor the rest ot the day to pursue Indlvidual activities such as trying to tind a motel it they hadn't reserved ahead of time, or cUpPing coupons In one of the downtown casinos. Others traveled to Virginia Cil;y to enjoy the historical culture ot the Old West. At 10:30 Sunday morning, the cyclists were torming the parade at the Carson City Mall, and around 11: 00 the Car son City Pollce led the riders north on HJgb_y 395 througb downtown and right on out to the Hot Springs Casino. Both clubs and indlYiduals were judged on their dress and appearance. Tbefield events, a blind race, potato grab, a boot and slow race, and a ball toss, enabled the riders to demonstrate their skill In handUng theft" mecbani2ed mounts. The judging and games were wound uP by 3 p.m., and the riders badacbance to relax or return to town tor more gaming while members of the C13M took care of. the paper work and ending details. Ho~d Eble flred uP the mike at 4:30 and took a halt hour to a~d all the trophies. The riders then ten in at the chow line and partook of a SUPerb feast. The riders consumed 35 chickens, each delicately disjointed and broasted by Casino Chef, Everett Ed~ds. The riders also did away with 25 pounds ot buttermilk biscuits, 100 pounds ot potatoos In salad and mashed under gravy along with several other sa1acIs, and gallons and gallons ot coffee. With tull tummies and satisfaction from spending an enjoyable weekend with congenial people ot like Interests, the riders hit the long trail home. During the trophy presentatlon, the assembled cycUsts gave Howard Eble and his group a hearty round of. applause tor bis magnificent handling of. the last minute change in plans. When asked it they would like to see the Carson Cil;y Bonanza Tour put on again in 1970, the riders enthusiastically gave their approval.
