SEDALIA, MO., Aug. 24, 1969 - Jim Rice put a British three cylinder in the winners circle at the 15 mile National at Sedalia, Mo., Sunday. Rice was never headed and guided the BSA Rocket Three to Its first nationally prominent victory. An eight-rider crash in the eighth lap removed many top names from competition for the day. Among the riders involved were, Mert Lawwill, Cal Rayborn, Roger Reiman, Forrester, Larry Palmgren, Darrel Dovel, and Dan Haaby. No one was seriously injured according to our reports, but Lawwill and Rayborn suttered cuts and bruises and Roger Reiman's bike caught fire and was destroyed. Haaby and Lawwill didn't continue. Duhamels engine dumping oil on the groove was given as a possible cause of the accident. Bart Markel and Dick Mann retired with mechanical problems, Word had reached Cycle News of a possible protest being lodged regarding starting positions and we will have detail on that a10ng with picutres next week. Don Castro won the Amateur raceona Triumph, followed by Ken Pressgrove an Dave Aldana, both on ElSA's. The race was run on a track badly chewed by car racing the day before and attendance was held down by a 10 a.m. starting time. (Results on page 26) ..
