One rider was a newcomer to the Saturday night get togethers and after crashlng twice didn't have anytb1ng good to say about the condition of the course or the llghting. What he did say was for the most part unprintable. Carl Cotton, the Open Jr. winner, thought the course-was fine in spite of the roughness. "That's the whole idea of a motorcross course" , he said "the rougher the better. The rougher a motocross course is the more demand it puts on the rider's skill and less on the bike:' When the Fontana course Is moist it's like a rocky beach, but the water truck was an hour or two early this week and the afternoon sun and the larger number of riders brought dusty conditions that caused the starter to wait between race to let the dust blow away. Before the August 23 meeting the course is due to get the tractor treatment and should be in good shape tor all the riders that wID turn out for the $300 purse for Juniors to be offered September 6th.
