NELSON BREAKS THAT LEG AGAIN
SIMI, CALIF.. Aug, 10 - Ron Nelson's
much-broken leg got snapped aga.In at
the Camarillo Boys Club benefit motocross on the Bay Mare Course. "One
more time," doctors said the last time,
"and that will be the end of his racing

Waldllan Can't
lose At Sacto
By Steve ROOIley
SACRAMENTO, CAL., Aug. 2, 1969Ralph Waldman, the Fa1rt1eld Flash,
returned to the flat track races at
Sacramento Raceway Saturday n1ght and
showed that he has not lost his knackfor
getting around the track faster than any
of the other 250 Expert riders. Waldman
has yet to lose a main event at the
Sacramento track, Start1ng on the fifteen
yard penalty line, Waldman bad to work
his way through a star-studded field of
riders to take his sJxth win and mainla1n
his lead in the class. Frank Gillespie,
Orinda, coming off his third place flntsh
at the Santa Rosa National M1le last
Sunday was able to hold off a strong bid
by Carmichael's John Greenandf1n1shed
second. Green was third and Gene Conant,
the Wheel1e Man from Petaluma, was
fourth.
Waldman, Gillespie and Green ran in
the same positions in the second heat
whUe Conant took the first heat over
Marvin Hurlburt, of Sebastopol and Danny McDavtes of San Rafael.
The 250 Ama,teur main saw Jerry
Baugh lead most of the way but he was
passed with a lap to go by Ron Matteri of
Santa Rosa. Paul Minor Jr., Sacramento,
started on the ten yard penalty l1ne and
worked his way uP to f1n1sh third ahead
of Richard Dashiell, Santa Rosa. M1ke
Richardson. San Rafael, and Matteri were
heat race w1Dners. Baugh took the5em1Main over Pat Rooney of Sacramento.
Sam White, No. Highlands, was victorious
in the 250 Novice class ahead of current
point leader Wayne Dam of Santa Rosa.
Bob Runde and Dennis Thompson were
the other trophy winners in this class.
MI1aJl Vickers, Sacramento, scored his
first main event win of the season in the
200 Amateur-Expert d1v1sion. Second
place rider was R. Pierre Bares of
Reno. Jim M1ller and Fred McFarland
rounded out the top four. Another Fairfield rider, Rusty Simpson, was the winner of the first place trophy in the 200
Novice clash. S1mpson was followed by
Bob Wyman, Redwood City, Manuel Fernandez, Rio Vista, and HenrY Burton,
Stockton.
M1Ice Rooney of Sacramento was the
early leader in the 125 Amateur class
but Ron Blackman. and Charles McG1msey worked their way by to take f1rstand
second followed by Jerry W1l11s of Loomis. ROOIley ended uP fourth followed by
BID Krantz. Other main winners included
Greg Johnson, Fair oaks, 125 Nov1ceand
Robie Robison, Modesto in the 100 Novice.
OVer 120 riders participated in the
evening's program. With the large turnouts of riders that have been sJgn1ng uP
each week Sacramento Raceway must be
conduet1ng one of the largest regularly
scheduled short track races in CalJfornta. Next races are on Aug. 16th. The
track will be quiet Saturday, Aug. 9th.
