Greaves rider Bryan Wade had an Wlusual job recently when he was asked bY tile Canadian d1v1s1on of the TImex Watch Company to co-operate with them In a fUm destined for commerical teJev1s1on In Canada. A team at camera men and fUm producers met at the well known international scramble course at Halstead recently. The purpose of tb1s was to demonstrate the antl- shock and waterproof qual1ties at tile TImex walch. The watches were fitted on tile crankcase of a 380ec "Griffon" and a l6mm fUm camera was mounted on the bottom of one fork leg and focused on the watches to record the j1Itlng and flying stones from the front wheel. In addition, Bryan had sound recording gear strapped to his back to record authentic engine noises. As tile weather had been dry for a considerable time, Dennis Crooks, the farmer owner, was Idnd enough to lay on 50,000 gallons of water before tile fUm people were happy that tile course was wet enough for tIlelr purpose. .Ian""" morlel>(lpec. ~gn). UlITIIDIlIE R~. few laPs most of tile fans were watching tile front place struggle and the rest of tile pack was almost forgotten altllough Dan Ruby and Paul Bostrum were having quite a scrap of tIlelr own for tile f1ftll and sixth place spots, Van Leeuwen had been tall1ng Mulder for tile whole race but on lap ten he really moved and laP after laP Sldp and Ed put on one heck of a race. 'They were often shoulder to shoulder. and one time Van Leeuwen got tile uPper band by half a bike length but couldn't bang onto it; Mulder had tile Inside l1ne. It was fantastic and tile stands knew it! Mulder was under tremendouS pressure, would be kellP his cool aDd not make a mistake? Would the Flying Dutchman oversl1de and lose some time? "Steady" Eddie kept his cool and to anyone who knows tile sUgbtest btt about defensive r1d1ng and 1JUc1Dg on to what you've got, it was a sight to see. At the cbeckered w1.tIl the crowd on tbe1r feet it was stW Mulder lead1ng but w1.tIl a lot of limp fans ready to collaPse.
