HST LDS ANGELES My wife and I were excited about prospect of another trtp to France to race, and wben I rot another COlltract to ride at Sauze- VaU5sa1s we jumped at it. The trip started of! very but we were plarued by trouble tor the wbole journey. Cheri and I left for France 011 Thursday the 1st of July, so we would have some time to sigbt-see on the way. We had planned to l8&ve early but I rot tied UP with some business and we did not ret underway until about 12: 30 in the afternoon. Tbings went very sm.oothly UP to the point that we entefed Paris (we could not detour around). We bad the misfortune to arrive in Paris at 4:45 in tile afternoon. Cheri hopped hack in, and away we W9IIt in a cloud of diesel smoke, Finally, at 6: 3D, we escaped trom Paris. It took WI nearly two hours to ret tbroue!l. I couldn't belleve itl From Paris we drove to the Palace of Versailles, walked around making the tourist scene, and took some pictures. On the road apJ.n we drovefor about three more hours then camped for the night at a roadside rest. Next mornlnc we awoke and leiSurely motored on down the length of France, throurh Chartres, Tours, and Poitlers stopPini every time we saw something interesting. There are many war monuments in this part of France and we went throurh a lot of them. At 1:00 in the a!t:ernoon, we ran into some terrible trame. Slow movlnr because of numerous accidents a10~ the way. That really tied us UP and we crept along at 4 miles an hour for a lOll( time. We mllde it to Sauze- Vaussais at 5: SO In tile evening and camped in the pits for the night, In Europe the pits are almost always haJ1 1ull the night before, because riders come trom long distances, and they like . to get there a.llead of time and relax. cooo
