- _. EI Toro Triple Kruse & Vanderpool By Jim Vardeman ·EL TORO, CAL., July 9, 1969 - Good things came In 3's for two young men too.Igbt. Mark Kruse, riding the Flat Track, and Ray Vanderpool, San Diego TT artist, look home 2 Trophy Dash wins and one MaIn a piece. Vanderpool resumed his winning streak after last weeks loss to Jim Raymond In the 250cc TT MaIn. Raymond gave both Kruse and Vanderpool a real run for their positions all evening long. In the 125 TT Trophy Dash it was Vanderpool, but the 125 TT MaIn was won by a visitor from Oceanside, but only after Vanderpool made a costly error, which dropped him from the lead to 8th place. Bob Frauenberger, riding a Bullaco, went on to win the 125cc Flat Track Main with Mark Kruse running 2nd to him In that one. Another visitor, Tom Sawyer, from Idaho also gave the field some setbacks in positions by running 2nd to Frauenberger In the 125 TT Main. Vanderpool stood off all challengers for the 250 TT Trophy Dash, but the Main Event In that class became an all out battle with Jim Raymond and Bill UbI hot on Vanderpool's heels to finish 2nd and 3rd to the TT hot shoe. The 250 Flat Track Trophy Dash went to Mark Kruse on his rapid Ducati. Kruse also won the 250 FlatTrackMain. The margin was so narrow that It was a battle right to the last laP, with Jim Raymond attempting to pass Kruse at the slightest mistake that the young Ducati rider might make. But no mistakes were made. Dick Lewis ran Srd on a Yamaha, with Bob Frauenberger comIng In 4th and Randy Ellis managing 5th. Ellis, last year's track champioo, has been plagued for some weeks with first one problem and then another with his Bultaco. We are sure that In the near future there ls bound to be a MaIn Event with Randy's name stamped clearly on it. Tom Vardeman, who had a run In with the waIl last week, was back but also had an ailing Bulta.eo. (Results on page 20) s,••~w., I. L.A. II otocross s.,.• BRISBANE, CAL., July 13,1969-Riders arriving Saturday found little more than a glorified TT course had been set uP for them at Brisbane, Cal., so a dozen worked the track Into sometlllng resembling a motocross circuit. Sunday'S racing saw Jim Wilson disqualified In the second 250 International moto by a Bill Stlverthorn protest. Wllson was forced off the course by a European rider, narrowly missed a tractor parked at the side of a jump and was In the 500 class, Smith and Nelson finished one-two In both motos. In the second race, the two were never more than !tve bike lengths apart and put on a handlebar-to-handlebar duel most of the way. Nelson was tly1ng, trying to pass Smith but the Englishman managed to keep him at bay. Riders said the weather was nice and the view of the water was Interesting but that was the extent of the good things said about Brisbane's motocross course. (Results on page 20) U.S.M.X.
