July 11 - Paul Conserrlere almost had It, but he bobbled In the North turn, opening the gate for Mel Lacher to take another Expert MaIn MACH DJ FLASHES TO Event win at the showcase of speed, Ascot Park Friday n1ght. Conserrlere (H-D) led the l1ne, closely pursued by Lacher and the two had a pitched tussle' until the loth lap when Mel took over. Lacher (H-D) went on to win by ten lengtbs while Paul fought back the advances of Dave Smith on the Crawford Chevrotlet Norton. Amateur honors went to the fast Northern Callfornlan Don Castro (Triumph) who gobbled uP Keith Mashburn, Terry Donaher and Marshall Becker on lap 6 of the 10-lapper and held on for the distance. en HEW WORLD RECORD 12.61 SECONDS 111.38M.p.H.
