with three laps to go when Fred Nix
sailed into the guardrail and lay omin- .
ously still in the 3rd corner. Fred was
bruised, but otherwise okay and the race
was restarted nose-to-tail fashion with
fast qualifier Lawwill on the starting line
and Nixon way back near the 4th turn
exit. On the restart Gary jetted into second place again, causing the crowd of
Nixon-rooters to go crazy, but again the
race was black flagged and starter Duke
P.ennel tossed the while flag as Gary was
heading back to the lineup. The ultimate
finish completely reshuffled the National
points standings (see page 20).
Amateur
Ken
Pressgrove from
Topeka, ~.nsas, riding a BSA, won a
terrific duel with Gordon Dusenberry
(H-D) to take the yellow-plate honors.
The two swapPed places as often as twice
a lap in a private battle way ahead of the
field. It was truly racing at its best.
