Eacb card was recorded as It was drawn. and away you went to the next check point. Just about every beautiful back road was utilized during the entire run, and many riders sawplaeestheydtd not know existed. Everyooe wound uP back at OCeanside In a park site on a htgh ht1l overlooktng the entire area. The aroma of chicken being barbecued on a buge open grill over charcoals brought goosebumps to your taste buds. Trl-Clt;y really wentall out to have this run remembered well. Nothing was catered at all. Field events were held In a large parkIng area at the foot of the hilltoP park, and trophies awarded very soon after the last contest was beld. By 6 p.m. It was all over and everyone piled on their cycles and beaded borne very contended to say the least. Many left with more than they came with - and believe me, those trophtes were well earned and everyone that got one can be proud of It. People actually went out and pulled sagebrush by band all winter to be able to have this event! There were ten entries In the l00cc class with Chuck Clark (Duc) taking first 00 all three motes. Bill Busey (Bul) came from a fourth in the first moto to take two seconds In the remaining ones with Harry Burris (Hon) a strong third. 'The loo's bad a llWe trouble as the narrow start faced a large, soft bill, but onJy a few bad to push. The 125's really were fast on tbts course compared to the 100' s. Robinson chased htrn as best they. could. With a total of thtrty riders In the 250 B class, they ran two fifteen-man beats with the first six transfer~1ngstraight to the main and everyone else riding the semi. With six riders transferring from the semi to the main, this gave them an eighteen man starting Une In fbe main _ n plenty tor the course. Barham was back agatn winning the main without any trouble. The Iron Man was pressed hard by Joe Brody and M. Jessop In the first two laps but they fell back In the final lap. 250 A rider Reynaldo Cortez showed everyone just how fast fast Is by wInntng all three motes wlfb spectacular rides. Stan Barrett and Bob Houstein were after htm as hard as they could go but all they saw was dust. The 375 B riders were run the same way as the 250 B's. Overall class winner Bill Krejel fell off his Montesa bard In practice. TIle ambulance took htm In and he bad seven stitches put In his elbow. ThIs dldIltbotberB1ll one bit however, he came back to win hts heat race and main by a "comfortable" margtn and he had to travel In some very fast company! TIle 375 A riders and Open B riders were all combined tor the last moto. 'The A , riders were all by themselves by the second lap with Joe Pyle (CZ) first A rider In for fbe brass.
