ACA Motocross Saddleback Park Semi-Final June 22 1969 ORANGE, CALIF., JUNE 22, 1969saddleback Sunday wasn't as rough and rutty as usual, or the riders are getting used to conditions and are just going faster. All the familiar faces of the motocross circuit showed up to partiin what proved to he an exciting day of racing. The C-Z team was out in full force l1gain with Stan around tighten holts, check gearing and above all to gi ve that great moral support every rider needs to ride a good race. w Mike Pera, CZ, leads Bill Gomen, CZ on hi. way to a Ilrst piaci finish In thllirst 250 Jr. raci. Suzuki rider #347 Don Emler scooted along in the 100cc sportsman class to a first overall win. #263 Steve Goldberg on a Hodaka was trying hard to overtake the leader hut just couldn't seem to make it, settling for second spoL The 125cc sportsman motos showed Sachs mounted #4 Bruce Baron again and again winning overall with some hard pushing from another sachs rider #104 Richard Foshay finishing second. :I'he 250 sportsman class proved upsetting to some. #76 Bill Gamen, C-Z mounted, took a very hard earned first a verall wi th Bul taco rider #209 Gre g Schweers taking aecond spot. #4 Bruce Baron. C-Z, #l Steve Strickland. C-Z. and #202 Jim O'Neal. C-Z, were really having at it in the second mota, fiying over the countryside and making this most dangerous sport look easy, This class was cut into two di visions due to the numher of entries, and the men were racing against time as well as posi tion. Tim Hart, Monllsa, Illes hleh durlne a 500 Molo. HI Iinished sICond. HusQvarna dominated the first three posi tions in the 500 sportsman class. #57 Carl Cotton, #492 Sam Jones and #56 Larry Geese finished I, 2 and 3 after time and positions were tallied. Open sportsman was won by RickmanMetisse rider #319 Jack Kell. Finishing in second was Triumph mounted #127 £.Wally Gordon. The 125cc Senior ~ass showed a surprising upset with #6 Mike Runyard. Sachs taking the number one spot and even more surprising#30 Jeff Creager on a Yamaha finishing second. Boy Wonder #5 Tom Rapp had it all sewn up with clear sailing ahead until the next to last lap on the second moto, then his machine went kaput. It wasn't the number one rider, Gary Bailey's day either. he had mechanical problems in both starts and ended UP with fourth spot. The 250 Senior class honors went to W11 Jim Wilson on his trusty Greeves. Tom RaPp again led the field for the first few laps but was overtaken by first Wilson; then Hart and finally Bailey. #4Tim Hart, Montessa gave Wilson some hot competition in the second moto but ended UP settling for fourth overall. In the 500 senior class, #11 Jim Wilson again dominated the scene with #4 Tim Hart, Montessa and #5 Walt Axthelm Metisse pushing hard for the first few laps. It didn't look like Wilson was too worried though. as he powered On through for a well deserved win.
