with Mike Patrick taking first overall
again on bls 25OCc, AI Baker was first
in the 125cc class, finisblng seventh
overall.
The riders were to go two loops on a
forty- five mile course. You could hear
the roar of the engines at the second
smoke bomb four miles out, then the
leader was in sight and it was Pbil
Bowers on a Yamaha; Patrick was running fourth. Bowers held the lead for
thirty miles, until he overshot the course
and Patrick took over. It was still Patrick coming into the pits with only a
twenty second lead over the hard charging Gary Griffin on a Bultaco. These two
top experts got with It on the second loop,
going wbeel to wheel down the fire roadS,
both having five speed bikes, and neither
rider giving in.
Patrick pulled in for the win willi
Griffin taking second after one hour and
fifty minutes on the course. Gary Cole
pulled in third on a 250 Malco, followed

PERRIS, Calif. June 14, 1969 - Well,
Perris Valley M.C. did It again. The last
scrambles they threw was a good one as
their membersblp is building up and this
one was better than the last although
rider attendance was down. The word It
was a rough scrambles scared some of
'em off. The course led down part of the
usual straight, cut back in up and then
up the bill almost to the very toP where
all the big rocks are, down (and we do
mean down!) onto the old course again
and looped around through a series of
turns and jumps through the gravel pit.
It was groovy, and most of the riders
thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Quotes
we got were: "hepe they do It again, get
away from this horsepower bit and the
expense," "This was fun," HI haven't
had so much fun since the old days," So
we think Perris Valley Is on to a good
tbing.
John Rice (sachs) wrapped up the 125
Amateur-Expert go followed in by Bultaco rider Steve Ellsworth who had one
of the best looking jumping styles in the
rough sections. Troy McKee onabeautiful little Penton took third and Yamabamounted Hayward Mendenhall fourth.
Dick sanders (Bultaco) was the Novice
winner.
Linus Beall on bis Bridgestone took a
well deserved win In the 100 Experthaul
In a race that had a couple who could
have been winners equally with Beall.
Steve Nichols had a good lead twice and
went out with mechanical problems and
Richard Sweaney (Kawasaki) was also a
mechanical victim on one moto. Eulene
