LIVONIA, "'CH. CHAMPIONSHIP RACE CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN Photos by Dave Friedman An AMA sanctioned national championship motorcycle race meet scheduled to run Sunday, June 1 at Livonia, Michigan was cancelled due to rain. The race will not be re-scheduled; Time trials and three 10 lap heat races were run before the downpour caused slippery conditions on the dirt surfaced 1/2 mlle track. Heat winners were Dave Sebl (Tri) Waterdown, Canada; Chuck Palmgren (Tri) Baltimore, Md.; and Ronnie Rall (H-D) Mansfield, Ohio. The race was sponsored througb the co-OPerative effort ot the Detroit Area Associated Motorcycle Clubs and the Livonia Metropolitan Club. These two organizations have been promoting motorcycle flat track racing tor the past 10 years. The proceeds trom their promotions go to various charitable organizations. In the past, they have donated as much as $10,000 in a year. RiCh!, Ramie Rail won a heal race as did Chuck (38) Palmgren below. Da... Sehl also won a heat. Mascotte Sp'its Aces ,. Sa'e. SpecfaCl'ar By Marie Layton SALEM, OREGON June 1- A special attraction tor the second EurQPeaD motocross at Salem Motocross Park was the appearance ot Lars Larssoo. Claes Nilson, and steve Goldberg, motocross aces trom San Diego and Los Angeles. All mounted on 125 Pentens, they raced in the 125cc senior division and swept the field taking 1st, 3rd, and 4th overall. Larsson was first with Larry Mascotte (BullaCo) wedging his wa:J between the three higb flyers to take an undisputed second spot. Nilson tinished third and Goldberg tourth. Larsson entered the OPeD division on a Husky, winning that race also. Finishing second to Lars in the Open was a local rider, Robert Leach, CZ mounted, who gave the Swede a very close race. 10 the last motocross beat Leacb was on the verge at passing Lars but as be went by the t1agman, tbongbt be saw the tinish flag and quit! He was tar enougb ahead at the rest at the pack that be got back in the race and stili came in second in that beat.
