Groundshakers 60 Motorcycle Club Max Switzer Benfefif By John Cook LAS VEGAS, NEVADA June 8 - A smoke run on behalf of Max Switzer, famous desert rider of Las Vegas, consisted of 3 sixteen mUe loops, covering a variety of terrain including a dry lake, volcanic rock and many dry washes. Entries were few, about thirty, many being personal friends of Mx's. Only 18 finished the 3 lap total of 48 miles. Starting promptly at 9 a.m. the run was completely over by 11:30. None of the riders seemed too beat by the course, even though several complained about the heat. WInds of about 20 mph kept the dust movlDg. Best sbow of the day was Expert Casey Folks on a 125 Sacbs, who finisbed 3rd over all and 1st In class. Casey blazed a trail for most of the 250's and bigger bikes, with Amateur Tom Scales winning over all on a 360 Husqvarna. Lee, sponsored by Steve's Bultaco of North Hollywood, saw the cbeckered flag first, but Moon put In a good try for his sponsors, Moon Mfg. ThIrd place flattracker was JImmy Raymond, riding out of Viva Don Cycle Sales of Ontario, Calif. Jimmy got ot! and was run over that spill-filled nigbt, but wasn't burt bad. Paul WUde got beaten In his races, but came bIlck strong to win the 125 and 100cc TT main events. Wllde rides for Ace Bike Shop of North Long Beacb. Greg Cunningbam, riding a self-sponsored Parllla, copped the second place trophy in the 100 TT, followed by Jack Morgan, riding an Eddie Crowell IntensUied Hndaka. There were 63 riders 1n all, 80% of them sponsored. Twnety-two races ran off between 8 and 10 p.m. and 29 trophies were awarded.
