Tom poteet, I34x, Bultaco mounted grabbed <1f tbe ewerall win after getting off twice at speed to charm the magnum ofCbam- 1IIIcc CLASS The big entry of 100cc riders took off pagne. '!be Hare Scrambles race was set up in a new place, with a real rough starting area, ewer choppy bushes and ruts. The course was tbirtY-ftve m1lesaroUDd aDd the big bikes would go three loops aDd the 100Cc would go two. The smoke bomb was set ... a mile out, at the end <1 a saodwasb, aDd tbe course made a 45 degree right turn right after the smote. It was a LeMans start at 10'00 a.m.. st:aod1ng at the smote bomb you could see the riders tall out, as mucb asa baIt a mile up to tbe right, to drop into tbe course early as there Is nocbeckat the smoke bomb. '!be first one through at the smote was Gary Conrad, #163 Husky mounted, BIll Friant #39>< was also right in there tlgbt1ng for the lead, PbU Bowers 6x OIl a Yamaha did a spectacular endo in tbe rough, just missing all the rocks aroUDd the smoke bomb area. 1bere was a big battle for the lead with Conrad getting with It, Larry Bergquist was also trying for the lead, but unloaded bard aDd was out for the day. The third and final loop Poteet came in on bis Bultaco tuned by bIs dad for the win with a two minute lead over Patrick. Dusty Coppage #46 on a Triumph tuned by Mike Burks was third and too first open class. James Martino #11 took first 500Cc on bis Huksy. Rick Shirey #158 was the first amateur in on a Bultaco, who said at the finish line, "this was the roughest and tigbtest course I have ever ridden, just like a motocross course." Wal1y Casperson #149 was tbe firstopen amateur in on bis Rickman Trlumpb, followed very closely by the first 250 amateur Tom Smith on a Yamaha. Speakman 11177 aDd Gary Griffin, #23 leading the pack. Jack Morgan #1 on a Hodaka that be tunes bim:oelf was running tenth and pulled <1f the main trail and moved right up to the lead. Mark Rader #28 OIl a Hodaka tuned by bis dad also got off the trail aDd moved up from twentieth to second, and JelJ. Wrigbt #15 OIl a 5.5. Hodaka tuned by Ron Benham, boondocked from twentieth to third. These three riders battled back and forth with eacb OIle bolding tbe lead at one time. Wright bad the lead at the second check, and held It down tbe offcamber bill, but unleaded in a bar to bar duel with Morgan. Coming into the pits It was Morgan, Rader and Wright. Out on the second loop Rader was now cballeng1ng Morgan, and took over the lead but the bard charging Morgan regained It and came in for the win. Rader was second and Wright was third, Gay Griffin #23 pulled In fourth OIl tbe Zundapp. R. Duncan #48 took fifth on a Penton, followed by Melton Krause 1/224 on a Sachs taking first novice, Allen Peppel #71 pulled In next taking first amateur• The Red Dots M.C. put a lot of work into their Mothers Day Run, the course was laid out with a lot of Imagination, as there were all kinds of obstacles to go over, every rider we talked In went down at least once.
