Dissatisfied with the cooperation be is receiving from one of the impOrters of a line be baDd1es, he is asking all his loyal customers to help. He is complling a list of bike riders who agree with bis positiOll and w1ll suPPOrt bim with a boycott of the brand involved. The plan bas merit. Already there are some 200 signatures. Two hundred may not sound like a lot but remember, this is from ONE dealer only. How many dealers can swing that much loyalty? Seems like this is OIle dealer who does more than just sell bikes! Inter-Am Series To Start In Sweden? Word is that the popular Inter-Am series will begin in Sweden this year. If true,it makes one wonder wbatthe "An." part means. Guess it doesn't mean America. Be tough on Americans wbo want those points. The series is real popular with the Swedes and we'll probably see a whole flock of them this summer at the 4th of July races celebrating America's Independence Day. 'lbey'll probably also stop over for the East Coast races too, at p.,pperell, Mass. The first of Pepperell's qualifying races was beld, and a success it was. Three thousand fans watcbed and paid at the gate so the promoters could offer the $600 prize mOlley that was promised. It was the flrst of six sucb races that will select who will ride in the Massacbusetts Inter-Am series. Eacb of the qualifying races pays a purse, as does the Inter-Am, solely for the Americans that ride - lIle internationals have their own and separate purse to sput up. Not only does this system help the riders but it gets the best riders too. Stand by. OUtboard and go kart enthusiasts will voucb for the pOwer of the newest German firm to become interested in motorcycles: Konig. Konig builds multi-cylinder, watercooled, two stroke engines. They have fitted one boat engine, whicb produces 68 horsepOwer, into aroaclraclngframe. It sbould get its first outing at the West German G.p. They may have teething troubles but it's a good guess it will be impressive. Tb1s particular engine is a four cylinder, with four carbs all breathing through one disc valve located on top of the fore and aft engine (two cylinders in frOllt and two lying back borizOlltally). Bore and stroke are sqUare at 54 mm.A belt driven pump drives the water coolant from a tank under the engine through a radiator. Typical Konig tbInk1ng dispenses with normal theory on expansion chambers, justiour collector pipes blowing into a large round tank. Robert Logs Three Off to a good start aga.I.nst the "jinx" be picked up by winning the Span1sb 250Cc G.P., Joel Robert bas added the second and third win to bis score. Only nine races to go and be bas 4~ pOints as oppsed to 30 for SUva1n Geboers and 22for Torsten Hallman. Marcel Wlertz, the Bultaco runner who toured with the InterAm series, Is now 5th in standings. The CZ factory are now 1 and 2. Plus they have two more strong runners going for them with Konecny (4th place) and StoduIka (6th place). The CZ one-two combination are both from Belgium. V8 Road Racer There's only one really, and that's the famous 1957 Moto GUZZi water cooled vee-eight. Rumor bas it that Mike (12 T'f wins and 9 World ChamPionships) Hallwood would ride the legendary Guzzi. Hallwood bas retired from racing bikes, unless the start money Is sufficient and bis car commitments allow, but supposedly be ts talking terms with the factory. Guzzi's are doing well exprtlng their big 700cc V-Twin and the Idea of promotion throUgh racing Is not unreasooabIe. Their tecbnlcal director, Lino Tonti, Is urging the beads to do so and bas a refurbisbed and Improved vee eigbt ready to go. BILL IVY, another retired champ who has gone to cars and comes back when sui!ably tempted ($), has been '$UJ.!ably tempted by Jawa. They have new 350Cc (Continued on page 27)
