The sport of Observed Trials, having been nearlY dormant for several years In Southern Calltornta is awakentng and growtng by leaps and bounds. The Southern Calltor- Honors among the Amateur Light.. weights went to Gary Sowell, Bultaco, 9 marks against while Greeves riders Gene Stewart and Larry Frakes took second and third respectively. InterestinglY there were five different makes of bikes tn the ftrst six positions. The Ultra-lightweights was also a tight contest with Donn Stewart coming out on top of Wil11am Stewart and Gary Lane. Sondra Huthtnson completely dominated the Womens class on her 90 Hodaka. Dropping a mere. 19 points for the day it was almost no contest excepttor the next four positions taken by Joyce Davenport, 33; Tina Brewer, 35; Donnie Stewart, 36; and Dee Dee Earl, 38. The Sections were quite dtfticult this day for most of the gals but this will all help to make the next trials a little more competitive for the women. 13 year old Martin Belatr looked extremelY good and his score substantiates his style. 9 marks against for the day's total. Mark Garsha took secODd with 22 points and Eddie Foland and Scott Montgomery tied for third with 28. 140 riders participated tn this event and with the unfortunate postponement of the Big Bear Two- Day event we can expect to see possibly 150 anxious riders at the next event.
