Bay Mare Combo-Cross
By John Shedd
SADDLEBACK PARK, ORANGE, Cal.,
May 4 - The Golden state Motocross
Series has reached the half-way point
and .the whole thing is still tIP for grabs
with a three-way tie for first. Gary
Baiely has piled up 18 points as have
juniors Paul Harber and Bruce Baron.
The CMC says there will no tie and that
the series will go on past the planned
six events if necessary. Final event
scheduled ls June 15 at Carlsbad, Calif.
At one time, it was a safe bet that
either Lars Larsson or Gary Bailey
would win the l25cc senior class, but
things have changed somewhat. Bultaco
mounted Tom Rapp has done his share to
change it. Tom sailed in for the win in
the first moto, but he had tofollowSachs
mounted Preston Petty in in the second
two. Preston didn't make the first mota
so Tom was content with second in the
last two, knowing it would still give him
the win.
Gary BaUey's biggest problem in winning the 250Cc senior class came in the
first lap of the first mota when his
Greeves lost its seat, but seven laps on
the pegs didn't seem to slow the ironman.
Bill Silverthorn finished second with
Jim Wilson third and Tim Hart forth on
his new Montesa.
