Apr. 13- Last week Gary Bailey was shut out of a w1D In the first event of tile CMC series, but tbls week at the alternate track be bounced back to w1D all three of the senior classes. Lars, Larsson picked off the 250 and 500cc wInS last week at S8ddleback, but since Lars ls not competing for points, tIley went to second place Bailey In the 250Cc and Jtm WUson In the 500cc class. BaileY ls tile only sentor rider wIlo baS accumulated 12 points In the series three, but Juntor riders, Bruce Baron In the 125cc class and the Harber brnthers from Las Vegas, are all tied In points for the trip to tile old country. Tom Rappwasab1e to fend off Larsson and Bailey last week, but Blilley was not to be denied the w1D. He had practiced and tuned many hours tbls past week for it. Tom brought hts Bultaco from behind to win the first leg, but Bailey kept hts Penton out front In the last two motos of the class. The best race of the day for f1rstplace was In the second division of the 125cc juntor class. sachs riders Bruce Baron and Steve Goldberg fought it out tooth and cog In all three legs. Bruce took the first one and Steve the second. With each rider having six points from last week and a moto apiece there was a lot riding on the outcome of the ftnal mota. It was hard fought, close all the way, and Bruce edged Steve out In the ftnal dash for the flag. It was a three way race between Batley, Larsson and Bill Silverthorn In all motos of tile 250Cc senior class. Larsson took the lead· In the firSt, but Bailey wheeled his Greeves out front on the second lap and went on to w1D it. Leg number two started out a dupllcate of tile firSt, but Husky mounted Bill Silverthorn Tom Rapp, here Bultaco mOlalled, crlns In pursuit of Ball.,. He rides for Mltco store. did hts thing near the end and won it with Bailey fln1sh1ng third behind Lars but still taIdng the class. There was plenty of competition for Bailey In tile 500cc senior class. PrelltrJD Petty, Jtm WUson, Chuck (F!l1!!'i> If! ept and Tim Hart all did theif best to give Batley a back seat at one time or another, but "GaPY the jet" pulled off two wins and one second place behind Jim Wilson (Greeves). The CMC had a great turn outfor their second event of the Trip-to-Europe series at new Carlsbad course. There were so many juntors that the 125cc and the 250Cc classes each had to be broken up Into three divisions, and the 500cc class was divided into two divtsions. Thts breakdown provided eleven classes and each ran three motos. More than a few IIluught that with 33 races to be run it might prove to be tile first "night" motocross, but by 5:20 p.m. the very efficient club had it over and done with. And that's including completed results. Competition will no doubt become keener as the ticket to England gets closer, so don't miss the next one at Saddleback Park on May 4. (Results on page 20) R.
