Like they say on TV. "Please sland by. He'll be right back!" The two-strokes did okay for themselves Sunday, March 30th. Ron Scmmers took Top Modified with his 500cc Suzuki. He felt "loaded tor bear" when he arrived and carried It through. Dick Strickland took Top Street aboard his 3 cylinder BSA. He was up against Jack "the Dirty Old Man" Murphy, mounted on his 3 cylinder Kawasaki. Jack couldn't hold back, so he lit the Big Red Eyes. Clear sailing tor Dick on that one with a speed of 99 mph. Tim Mark, a newcomer from the east coast Is doing well for himself. He took Top Gas this week aboard his "homei made frame" Harley-Davidson with 120.64 mph and 11.1~ E.T. Mike Cash was right behind him, but not quite good enough. He was runner-up at 110.00 mph. Joy and Art Houston were out Sunday with their new 3 cylinder Triumph to see what It could do. It Is to be torn down and rebuilt into a machine capable of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Bob Braverman showed up with his little 120 Kawasaki. Bob'S "Giant Killer" is in parts on the garage floor right now. He Is working on someth1ng bigger and better. He usually has Jerry Ramer ride the little 120, but he got Into a hassle with the asphalt on his own dirt bike right In tront of his own tront door. He had been warned by Bob on this matter, but It didn't soak In until he had to sutfer out a tew painful bruises and scrapes. Jerry has decided to take his bike out to the desert Sunday where the spills aren't so sudden and bard • Dan and I have contacted a lot of people concerning donations to match the purse of $1000.00 that Lions has put UP. Dan has received a lot of promises so far, but no checks to speak of. It we plan on getting this show on the road, we're going to have to get mighty busy. We have just three months until our All-Bike Meetl C,J. Hart, the manager of Lions Drag Strip Is going all out to get some big names for the event. He Is in the process of contacting Eejay (Michigan's Mad Man) Potter to invite him out with his tuelinjected ChevY-powered bike. We expect to see an awful lot of speed on the strip that day. It's rumored that a lot of the dragsters trom up north and our neighboring states plan to attend. Dan started to post the names of the promised donations, but being there have been no checks to this date, he has decided to post the names and amounts when, and onlY wben the checks arrive. He has had many promises, but only two absolute donations that he can turn In. Namely, Dan Zeman, $25.00 and Betty "Meet the Dragger" Nichols, $25.00. That Is a heck of a long ways trom the hoped-for gold to ma.ke it the biggest and best meet on the West Coast. Let's hear trom you.
