Story & Photo by Bill Harmer CHULA VISTA, Calif. March 16- Wayne Hosaka dominated the Mesa M.C. TT Scrambles program at South Bay SPeedway by capturing top honors in both the 250Cc and lOOCc expert events, riding a Hodaka and a Kawasaki 250. Riding his Triumph masterfully, Myron Carter of PowaY,Calif.outttistancedstiHcompetition to claim high points in the Open Expert series. The Qpen Expert bash was so heated that the outcome depended on the final moto. Anyone of four riders could have captured the crown. Al Finan, won the first moto handily and finished well in the second, developed ignition trouble and was barely able to finish in the final. Don Matthews was having trouble with gearing and couldn't keep his hot Gold Star up where he wanted it, so the final moto developed into a duel between Carter (who was 1967 point champ) and Jim Harmon who has perhaps shown more improved riding this year than anyone in the Open Expert class. Riding consistently, he made Carter know that he had been in a race. One of the most thrilllng contests was the lOOCc Expertconflict. Wayne Hosaka, Jim McGuire and Chuck Byers passed and repassed each other time after time and were never separated very far on their equally proficient Hodakas. Wayne Hosaka narrowly defeated Jim McGuire with Byers coming in a close third. Hosaka repeated his victorious ways by dominating the 250Cc expert series but had some trouble with a young "dark horse" rider, Earl Barker, riding anew Earl Roloff-tuned machine out of South Bay Yamaha. It was the first time outfor the Yamaha. Roloff was still experimenting with the motor and had to adjust it after each heat. He Jound the right combination in the final circuit and Barker led the field by such a margin that it looked like he was in a different race. Collecting top awards for the .series however was Kawasaki mounted Wayne Hosaka. Cimatti at Trojan Raceway!
