According to Don Graves, Natlona1 sales Manager, Kawa.sald's new 500 Is lIIe year's most exciting motorcycle, the top macbine, performance-wise and satety-wise, in the medium and large bore twins, lbrees and fours being introduced this year from Japan and England. The manufacturer is a major world builder of aircraft and bas produced in lIIe 500 Macb m, tbe present world's hlgbest borsepower-to-weigbt ratio and borsepower-to-displacement ratio In a production macblne, along with tbe advanced satety features. An additlooal major innovation is the motorcycle industry's most advanced electronic capacity discharge ignition system using surface firing, noo-foullng spark plugs. The vertical, all-new lbree-cyllnder design provides highly effective fuel flow and sate, hlgb rpm for maximum power. The smaller bore allows for better cool1ng, lIgbt reciprocating welibt and smoother performance. The 120-degree tiring design also is a major innovation, providing power pulses, timed to give over 10 percent more power output than conventional twin 180-degree configurations, as well as vlbrationless performance. Kawa.sald's electronic capac1ty discharge Ignition system (CD!) features one of the world's most advanced Ignition systems, with no breaker points to wear or to set. It gives a botter. taster spark than does a conventional system. Anti-fouling surface gap spark plugs are used willi the CD! system wblch have an expected 1Ite of 5000 miles. These plugs have no gap to set or beat range to worry abOut. An automotive type distributor Is used with the system. Styling for this macblne, built specifically for the United States market, was done in conjunction willi a toP U.S. designer with past Detroit automotive experience.
