SOUTHGATE, Cal., Jan. 10 - With the absence of Gary Bailey from the Friday night scene, Dale Hopkins took the 100cc Sr. TI Main with Paul (Wild mao) Wilde pushing his hot little Yamaha into second place. Dan Willits (Hod) showed the 100 Jrs. the way with Yamaha ace Greg Cunningham snatching second and Larry Schaw bringing mama home a third aboard Hodaka. Dave Clift came all the way from Washington to take !lrst place in the 250 TT Main; he was also second in the 250 Flat Track event behind the fast moving YL'Ilaha of Jim Posey. Paul Wilde made of! with a first in the 100 FT Main with no competition in slgbt. Larry Schaw was top man in the 100 Jr. FT event with Scott Autrey hot on his heels. Gary Scott showed up with one of the new Cimitti racers and grabbed third. (Results on page 16) Dick Smothers, star of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, is shown here taking delivery of tile first three-cylinder BSA Rocket 3 sold in the world. With him are Pete Joseph, BSA dealer i. West I.os Angeles, who delivered the bike, and Joe Hope, Public Relations lIanager for BSA Smothers, an ardent racing enthusiast and driver, rode a demonstrator triple, and expres.... such a desire to have one that the BSA factory in England specially built a trip Ie ahead of lbe scheduled production run and air freighted the bike to Los Angeles as a sll'Prise. Pete Joseph, a long-lime friend of Smothers, arranged for him to ride the triple while attending the recent CanAm Race in Las Vegas. In addition to owning and driving his own formula cars, Smothers has been 3 motorcycle enthusiast for years. "II he drives a car as well as he rides his triple," said Hnpe, "he will be a real contender on the track." PNTA ;s on The Go With the popularity of Trials riding on the upswing in this country It became evident to a group of Northwest Trials enthusiasts that an organization to promote, encourage and sanction Trials events In the Pacific Northwest was needed. Thus the Pac Ifl c Northwest Trials Association was conceived early In November 1968. The PNTA wlll establish a system compatible with those already in existence elsewhere, and capable of selecting Northwest champions for national competition. The following rules have been established for 1969 in order that rider, observer, and spectator alike might glean the fullest enjoyment from P.N.T.A. events: 1969 will be a building year with several events already scheduled. A point system based on placement wlll determine the overall annual championship and In 1970 will divide riders into amateur, expert and master classltlcations. P.N.T.A. has put together a trails kit containing such material as score sheets" number cards, rules, a booklet on how to execute a Trials. All interested applicants are urged to contact P .N. T.A.
