She rode Fred Edward's 100cc Yamaha single all the way, to f1nish the 30-lapper and win the Powder Puff the following day. Debbi says she really likes the fast, smooth track at Perris. She hopes to return next season before trying her hand at Class C Novice racing in Washington. The early leader in the 250-0pen event was BSA rocket Dave Brant. Riding sans gloves Dave was forced to stop after only four laps suffering from near frostbite. Yamaha-mounted Loyal Penn took over the lead and held it for many laps. Meanwhile, lOyde McGofast was preparing to take his maiden voyage on a 4O-incher. Now two laps off the pace lOyde mounted Brant's BSA and proceeded to work through the pack. As lOyde caught Vince Graves, Graves put on an extra effort. As a result Graves went on to overtake the leader Loyal Penn. Shortly thereafter, Penn retired with mechanical problems, and as previously mentioned Graves and Bultaco went on to win. A smooth and consistent ride by Malcomounted Ray Nichols gave him second place, and gave the Nichols family a very respectable record for the night. A 250 Bultaco also ran third with Bob Huntsman navigating. Fourth place f1nisher Bob Rudd hurried his Honda across the finish line to stay in the same lap as the leader.
