Gary Olsen on a Yamaha came in flrst and Don WaWo on a new and bigger Bul took second place even with an eyeful of mud. 'Ib1rd place winner was a C Z rider, Tom Pascben, and fourth was Gary Kuene on a Yamaha. in the 200 mota cross, Johnny Roner, Bultaco, edged out Dan Adams on a 125 Penton. Nick Theroux won tile f1fth elimination over 151y, Rod Kretss, in the time of 58:61 sec. Tb1s was the second fastest elimination race, and set Nick up for a pole position start in bts beat. Next to btm was Mike Yarn. As tile flag went up Theroux got the jump into tile first turn over Yarn; but Yarn was ever present, and kept on Theroux witll wbeels on tile 1ns1de and outslde. Tbts brougbtdown the By L. Lawton RANCHO CORDOVA, Cal., Dee. 7 - The flrst Cycle-Rama was a complete success by its sponsors, the Knigbts of Columbus and Rotary Club r1 Rancbo Cordova. It was beld in the Goethe Memor1a1 Park on the banks of the banks of the American River where Sacramento County bas set aside approximately 45 acres for the exclusive use of motorcyclists. The area consists of paved roads as well as some beautllul tra1ls through oak trees, eucalyptus trees, and btlls enougb to tax the skUls of anyone. Tbe idea of the Cycle-Rama was conceived by the Knigbts of Columbus in tIIeir search for a club project. They worked with Stepben Rooney, Director of Work Experience for the Folsom-Cordon Scbool District. The program consisted of a safety cheek and sign-in, an obstacle course, a slow race, and a chance to ride a marked tr1als course tbrougb btlls and sandy areas. KC RA television carried a full minute-and-a-balf of the program during prime time on their regular news cast. The Knigbts of Columbus and the Rotary Club both expressed interest in conducting a similar program during the spring. Many of the members of the clubs came away from the Cycle-Rama witll an entirely d1fferent outlook on motorcycles and tile people who ride tbem. Rooney was able to get tile f11m from tile televiston studio and w1ll use it in presentations before civic and community groups to encourage tIIem to participate in s1m1lar programs to spread tile word r1 motorcycle safety tbrougbout the entire area. Mark Brelsford led b1s semi from the jump, and made ita clean sweep by easUy winning the 15 lap main event. Tbts is a switch for Brelsford, as be hadn't made a main indoors event for quite a while. Perhaps tile fact that bts parents were in the audtence changed bts bad luck. A t any rate it looks like a successful year ahead for the young San Bruno flash, and 11 Harley-Davidson would expand tIIeir younger look in advertising and pub11c relations I tb1nk they'd get back a few ntce guy points, needed now that the "inch for 1neb" rule ts in.
