They Gypsy Wheels . M.C. of Ridgecres t, Cal. logged 265 mtles, The smartly-uniformed Oxnard M.C., riding some of the most- striking custom painted machines ever seen in one group, posted 270 mile s. But It was ten -member contingent of Valley Vagabond,:; fr om Phoenix, Arizona (annual Grand Canyon tour hosts) who claimed the long dts-tance club trophy - with 271 miles , coInctdentally cur lou s as that figure may be. Brawley Is a community . of 15,000, 117 feet below sea level In the heart of the world'S larges t cattle -feeding area. For years It has been famous for Its Imperial Valle y Rodeo and Br awley cattle Call, attended by 40,000. Sherry is a 19year-old Imperial Valley College Freshman majoring in art and design. This red-haired daughte r of a dairyman and former 4H clubber has parlayed a makeshi ft bunch of Mexican steers into a 344head prim e herd . Sherry has a 50cc Honda but prefers her mare " Petunia" for the job of her ding her ca ttle (and why not?) It wasn't until the end of the fi r st day - with the hotels fu1l and the merchants putting on happy faces because there wasn ' t any sign of the disorder they expected - that the Chief of Pollee took to the P.A. sys - Parad ing through the friendly town. Clubsdr1ll team had given the townspeople a foretaste of what was to come on the pr evious afte r noon. High School junior, is the women's champ ionship point lead er in District 36. She races her little Kawasaki at Sacramento Speedway, at Lodi or anywhere else that her fa ther - tuner w1Il take her for her favorite sport. She has bee n r iding motors .for about 4 years , won her #1 pla te for the fi rst time last year and barring misfor tune, w1Il repeat thi s year. In her leathers and helmet and astride her mount out on the track she displays a slam-bang style of riding with no holds barred. Her dad, who watched her lead the early laps of the 100cc Gran Prix only to spill and fall a lap behind, is not convinced that his Debbie is not the top woman racer in the West and is planning on taking her to Washington to contest the champ. In the meantime Debbie doesn't care where she goes just as long a" she can ride her bike. 11- year- old ·GARY WELLS is a 6th gr ader at Manch Grammar School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has been racing motorcycles for about 18 months having evolved into the sport from go- kart raeIng, He has captured 6 first place trophies and 2 seconds on his little Bridgestone which his father tunes and maintains for him . He Is a very spectac ular jockey and had the dlstinction of leading the Novices for the fir st 5 laps of the 100cc Gran Prix. Gary's Dad and Mom, of course, accompany him on all of his outings and are understandably proud of their young speed merchant, SEE YOUR D EA LE R
