Before the competition began, Benny Sanchez, coordinator of the races announced that there would be four motos for each class Instead of thr ee, to fill out the pr ogram. Then the 50Cc class cam e to the line . Emillo Guerrero, riding a Honda, drew an ovation when he rode uP to the start with his leg in a cast, but ready to race . He and his closest competitor, Ricardo Snchez on a Yamaha, put on a good show In the first two motes, Guerrero took both of them . In the third, however, he went down hard and had to quit. This misfortune gave Sanchez nearly tree reign In winning the last two motos and garnering fir s t place In that class. Even though Guerrero did not finish In the last two motos, he had enough points to take second. A persistent Raul Miranda on a Moto Is10 was third. Takes Eight Both the 100cc and 200cc classes were won by Leonardo Med1na, riding for a local Kawasaki deal er . Med1na had to fight hard In the 10OCcclass .A1thoughhe won all four motes, Jose -Luis Sanchez and Buzz Frank made him work for the victories . Medina also won all four of the 200cc events, but he was never really challenged. The contest for second place was exciting, however, with Jos e Luis Sanchez, on the same Yamaha he had ridden In the smaller class, switching places with Hon K1nger on a Suzuki 120 In al most every Iap, Sanchez won out, eventually, and Kinger had to s ettle for third. The big upse t of the day occurred In the Open Class . Dennis Smith rode to the races on his Yamaha DTI just to watch. Once there, the bug bit him and he jus t had to try his luck. As we understand It, this was his first attempt at racing, but from the r esults you wouldn't know It. Smith won three out of the four motes, with only a spill In the third race keeping him from cleaning house . Med1na (Kawasaki) and Bob Kaza lis on a Honda tried their best to stop Sm1th, but couidn ' t, The racing program was followed by a trophy presentation an!! Bar-B-Q. A mariachi hand was there to enterlaln the racers and their famWes. Moto Club Latino hopes that more Americans will come to the next race on December 15. (Res ults on page 16) -.
