Lion's Purses $100 for february By Dan Zeman Entries have been low the last tew weeks at Lion's, with the bikes runn ing on cold , damp saturday nights . saturday, the 7th, brought a dozen or so cycles out, but only to be sent home betore eliminations - that Is, U they could tlnd their way home through the tog. saturday, Dec. 14th, Is the last day of racing tor 1968 at Lions. The gates open at 1:30 p .m, with eliminations at 6 p.m , Sunday, Jan. 12th, Is the Lion's openIng day tor cycles, with the usual event. The first Sunday In February , there will be a big change. C.J. Hart, Lions Strip manager, has promis ed $100 per week tor tour straight weeks . If attendance and entries rise by the end ot thos e tour weeks, the money will r ise. It there Is no Incr ease, the money will drop accordIngly. The $100 will be divided among the classes, with a 'Top Bike ' In each division. For instance, In Street division, the winner at each class (alter re ceiving their trophies) will run ott against the next higher class. Winner of 'A' Street will race the winner at 'B' Street, 'C' will race ' D' and ' E' will race 'F' . The bike that comes out on top, alter all others have been eliminated, will take home the Top Street gold. The same thing applies for ModUled and Gas divisions. Top Street will receive $10, ModUied , $15, and Gas $25. The r emainIng $50 will go to the Top Bike winner. Any bike runn ing gasoline that wants to run with the fuel burners will have to run In the elevens or tas ter. At the Phoenix International Rac eway on Dec . 1st he not oniy won his own Trans-Am class but finished tirst overall. Today at Holtville Raceway In a San Diego regional SCCA meet, Rayborn easily won his class and tlnished third overall in spite of losing his brakes. In an Interview later, Cal said he is not forsaking cycle racing. He Is still under contract to Harley-Davidson and is plannin g the 1969 campaign starting at the Houston Astrodome. Rayborn said motorcycle road racing 15 a bigger thrill than car racing but then added shyly that the prize money makes that sport look highiy attractive.
