SADDLEBACK, csi., Dec. 8 - The Fatherland reigned supreme in the 500 international Sunday as Germany's Adolph WeU on a German mount (Malco) outran the oPposition in all three motos before 22,000 fans. England' s Bryan Wade on a Greeves ended up second overall, despite a wrenched back from Saturday. The C-Z European team falred badly and their DNF rate on Sunday was high. VlastimU Valek was the only team me mber to make i t, taking third overall. The other C- Z to finish was Tim Hart, seve nth over all and fourth American. Dave Bicker s looked good in the fi rst r ound but his engine developed a " clinking s ound" somewhere and he s kipped the s econd. In the third he got with it. With Bryan Wade leading and Wen in t he middle the three of the m pulled away from the r es t. But finally Bicker s went out fo r good . Joel Robert was fast but just wasn't his us ual self. He adm i tt ed , "It's not the machine, it's me. It's not my day." He too ended up on the DNF Ust on this last day of the Inter-Am series that was hard on both men and machinery. Ronnie Nelson became first American and fourth overall on hls Montesa. He was also the overall SOOcc Am er ican winner for the series, jo1n1ng teammate John DeSoto who took the 250cc American class , making It a clean s weep for Team Viva. again he 's probably the greatest allaround American rider this country has ever had •••Keith Mashburn on the 125cc Yamaha Saturday . ..in a few years Keith may just be a candidate for Mann's crown and we wish he could r ide more maio-cross. Anyway . It's over now 'W next year and we' ll be back to our regular clubstyle events. But this year we didn't get walked all over. We're learning. Adolph's Malco proved that horsepower can mean a lot. He couldn't be held back even after a bad start in the second moto as he easUy weeded his way into the firs t pos i ti on In three laps. Russ Darnell put on quite a s how for an American in the s ec ond 250 Inter nati onal. He held second and four th for several laps and for four laps managed to hold off world champion Joel Robert. Darnell leaves for Europe on January 15 to r ide In the Inte r na ti onal circu it for three years. The all-new Amer ican Eagle made a good showing in the Junior divis ion r idden by David Aldana. Spec tator Inte r e s t was high since they were getting a first look at it in action. OVerall Junior winner was Barry Bromfield on a Husqvarna, On the second r ound there was a bad crash at the bottom of the downhill. Bob Gr ossi (Montesa) went down and several of the riders behind him just kept on coming Uke kamikazes and rolled Bob and hls bike around a bi t, There was a black nag but Bob walked away from the ambulance. On the res tart Bromfield was third first tim e through an d first second time through.
