Happy Birthday, Joel
Joel Robert celebrated his 25th birthday on Sunday by winning both of his 500Cc
Senior motos going away. How one r ider
can go so fast while spending most of the
race off the groWld is s till a mystery to
astonished tan s . Apparently Robert has
found a way to get traction on thin air .
His spectacular 40-foot leaps and crossed-uP wheeli es left no doubt in anyone's
mind tha t he is s till the r e1g:n1ng world' s
champion.
Adolf Weil, the Maico Marvel. was the
hard luck man of the week. The likeable
young German lapped all but the t1r s ttour
in the 250ce Senior Moto on saturday,
only to destroy his rear wheelln the first
chase, and crash heavily in the second.
He decided not to r ide on Sunday, rather
than push his luck.
The American amateurs were just
along for the ride. so to speak. In the
early laps of the Senior motos a tight
bunch of Europeans would jet past, followed some seconds later by the fastest
Americans. Montesa -mounted Ron Nelson led the home team to the checkered
flag in both classes.

of men and machinery. with Dave Bickers
