PANORAMA HEIGHTS, Cal. , OCt. 20 The Bakersfield Red Tops held their first annual tour this weekend at Panorama Heights Lodge in the Greenhorn Mountains. The lodge is northeast of OUdale, 50 miles into the mountains, at an altitude of 5230 ft. The threat of bad weather cut the turnoui to only 125 riders and passengers. On arrival, every r ider was welcomed and given a poker hand for the games the next day. The tour was advertised as "an you can eat". and the Red Tops meant it. Many went back tor seconds, even thirds, of that delicious Mrbequed beet with an the trimmings. After supper, the cool mountain air moved in tast, and one had to keepdanc- iug to stay warm. But with Harold Cox and his Sooners, that was no problem. Led by Marcia Ashcraft on lead guitar, they put on a superb sbow. Mid 40's At Nidat The 45 degree night was warmed by Sunday morning s uns bine, pertecUor the games. The Revellers trom Bakersfield d0nated a perpetual trophy for best overall club. The Bakersfield Road Runners cot it. Wlth 22 members, they also toolt largest club award. Local Forest Rangers judged the impr e s s ive Gypsy 1Nheels as the best dressed club. He won the 100 Novice heat and took s ec ond in the Main. In 350 to 500 he took both heat and Main in grand style, leading start to tinish. Another cripple blLck to the wars was Joe Henry who broJce his leg at Lincoln recently. But it healed fast. Henry came trom the back to wrestle the lead away from a determined Don Simmons in the 250 Am-Ex Main. Hard Fought Third Back in the pack it was a three way go between Stan Stanton, Manfred Beyrend and George Carter. A Bul and two Yams. All three were well-matched but it was Manfred who came in third. by Dale McKinnon In the 250 Novi ce J im Crens ha w got back in the trophy circle by ta1dng a well-earned second.
