It seems every time a motorcycle club finds a good place to hav e a race, someone does their best to get the m kicked off the property. So after more tha n a year th e local City Council won. Their claim Is too m uch noise. (No house wi th i n a mile of th e place and the land that' s worthless f or anything but motorcycles .) A hundred fo r ty-five r i ders sho wed up to bi d a fo nd far ewell to th e track. As usual the Sierra M.C. put on an excellent race. . The 250 Novice Main proved to be the most interesting as I t took them three times to get It started. Breen Hoffman got off the line first wi th Ken Smith close and a real good battle f or third between Darrell Walthamp and Perry McLain. Two riders went down hard - so first r estar t . On the next try one rider f11pped and one killed his machine. Another restart. ThIs time L . Jerry Langseth took the lead with Sene Farthing right on his tall, Allen Chuck went down trying to pass. Richard Jones and L eeRoy Jackson rode peg to peg for second several laps then Sene Farthing slipped in to take second. ThIs 250 bunch sure proved to be one of the wildest seen In a long time. The females got to try their luck the first time In quite awhile. Sue Childress had It all sewed up until the last lap when she boo- booed. Debbi e Jackllne slipped by to take a narrow win. Ginger Burrola pushed th em all the way. Bad Tangle Th e fir s t restart was In th e 100 Novice Main wi th Jerry L ee Willis out in front . John Green to ok the win I n the 200 Novice M ai n after fo llowing Gary Kun sman around seve r al laps . To m Lezz and Bill Strange had a ni p and tuck bat tle for sec ond wi th T om c omi ng out on top. Sparky Pinola was uP there f or a while but fe ll back to fourth . He' s doing better with his new bike. in the 200 Am-EX. Main Duan e Perry got off the line first but It was Jerry Tyl er on t op out of the fir st turn. Kenny Robe rts sto l e second. He tri ed r epeatedl y to take th e lead but Duane was too much for him. Finally he fell and two riders got by, so he f ini shed fourth. Don Simons and Carl Yerbyhadaring-a-dlng battle for third with Car l out on top, Steve Young was back to his w1nn1ng ways In the 350-500 A m . Main. He had a little trouble with Jerry Bowers who stayed on his tail waiting f or the mistake that didn't come . The rest of the riders paraded around two by two for most of the whole race , kinda unusual.
