Cour s e preparations are now com plete on this wide, fast course laid out in bea utif ul DeLavega Park over looking Santa Cr uz and Monterey Bay . The track is ad jacent to several famous tour is t attracti ons s uch as San ta 's Village, the Lost World and the famous Myster y Spot. This race, titled the H I s t Annual Golden Gate Inte rnati onal" will be the s ixth in a series of ei ght e vents promoted by Edison Dye' s International Moto- Cr os s Inc . These eve nts will be promoted by Interna tional Moto- Cross and Edi son Dye, who was instrumental In obtaining visas for the Czechoslova kian rider s for these important eve nts. Valek, bor n March 15, 1938 In Rokycany , Czechoslovakia, married and the father of two child r en, started his career as a young boy by riding trials. Thefirs t mone y he earned was s pent buying an engine and pa r ts for a " s pecial" trials bike which he mounted hi ms elf. Valek s tarted In several trials to obtain qualific ation. In 1957 he chan ged to MotoCr oss racing, whic h he has stuck to. He started Moto-Cross with a li ght 175cc and then changed to a four -stroke Es o 500 with which he gained In 1959 the title of CSSRchampion in the 500cc class. After finishing his military ser vice, Valek took up e mployment with the CZ factor y at Strakonlce as a mechanic, again riding li ght two-stroke motor cycles. This was the ti me or his greatest pr ogress . He became a CZ factor y rider, malntalned his own motor cycle, and his r iding co ndition becam e ex cellent. In 1962 he took fourth place In the MotoCr os s World Champions hip In the 250cc class, an d one year later he clinched second plac e in the same eve nt. At the beginning of 1964 Vlastimil moved to Prague, entered the Ja wa r esearch departm ent, and offered his experience for the development or new factory mac hines . Vl astlmil became CSSR cham pion and was four th in total World Cham pions hip classification for 1966/1 967.
