Perris, you can come here" or wor ds to that effect. A bit ot a s mack in the chops, we think, but one we knowwasn'tintended. Anyway, we know that Perris won't suffer because ot the new track in either races held there or practice Sundays . Any racer knows he can' t patronize one track only or he 'll never develop into a good rider . Both tracks are completely dttferent, Huntington being a tast california TT-type and Perris an up and downhUl scrambly type. ~~~. ~~mu CYCLE MAGAZINE 1957 to present. other motorcycle magazines-l87issues altogether, pvt. party, best offer. They will then ,be tn ,Wichita, lW1sas'on ,November,. 3rd and in Dallas, Texas on the -9th and 10th. Then they will be In California at Westlake on the 16th and 17th, Santa Cruz on the 24th and Carlshad on December 1st. The tinal event,W!li~I!LW!ij.!!!l~~ ..;:) championship event will be held.atsad- _ dieback Park on December 8th. I think more ot our riders will be prepared to compete with the Europeans this year and they should tare much better than they have in the past. f· · · · · · · · · · · - - - - - - · · · · · · · · · · . , t KAWASAKI WINS',: 'd""'I'" t 1'2 hr e~~ P clion Road Race . trt»du : W _Springs Sept. 29, 1968 t dillow t POWER RESEARCH (l'" ~l' aleet deu-~~ {16. 4 . It seems a bore, but it someone had once stolen part ot your 40 incher you'd be mighty happy it one day the police caught up with him and got your engine back. Sunday practice days will start soon at the new Huntington Beach, Calif. track, giving us another place to go run around when there is n' t a race scheduled or you don 't too lite racing. Perris s tarts Its Open Sundays again in September and we telt sorry indeed tor owner Gerry Burton and bls wife Grace this SundaY. They attended the Opening and had to listen to the announcer keep saying " Now you don't have to drive all the way to ;~ t\.R' " surprise, instead ot the 10 or 15 finishers we thought there would be, better than 35 out ot the or iginal s tarting tield tinished. Next year's event should otfer even more in the way ot showmanship put on by the racing teams and the individual sponsors as well as the factories . If anyone had the opp ortunlty to go down and see the Custom Engineering pits Which, by the way, sponsored the over-all winning bike, they would have seen one ot the best operating pit crewS and organ!zation in motorcycle racing that we have ever had the opportunity to see. With their bright lavendar hats and sharp white pit uniforms and matching motorcycles, tool boxes, tueling tanks and accessories, they were a delightful sight. At one time a tire was changed, the bike was refueled with 011 and gas and a rider was eXchanged, all in the period ot 1 min. 57 sec. which would be hard tor even the Indianapolis boys to beat. We look torward to more crews and equipment ot this type for next year. Barring a tew m1sbaps and a tewmistakes, the event came ott very well. A greai deal was learned of the problems involved in putting on a 12 hour event, especially with running the last '2- 1/ 2 hours In darkness. (ED.
