F e e Membership of the Southern California Road Riders Committee was l opped to 17 cl ubs Sep tember 9th , when the gr oup ga the red at the Po mona Harley -Davidson shop for the ir regular mon thly meeting . Confusion was the order of the night as motions were offered on top of motions, poi nts of order thrown about like bri ckbats , an d s ticky sarcastic exchanges indul ged in be tween the r epresentatives . The a ssessment contrczery was r eviver! and the r anks deci ma ted. The Califor nia Rainbows s ubmi tted'a letter s etting for th their feelings : " Th e California Rainbows Motor cycle Club feel s that the $20 assessment by the R.R. C. on the mem be r clubs is not the pop ular feeling of all that wer e affe cted . " The Califo rnia Rai nbows hav e always worked thei r share and more on R.R .C . runs an d our r eferee s ha ve s tepped forward to help on other runs . We have had close to perfect attendance at R. R .C. me etings. We certainly do not feel we are dead weigh t. We would prefer to conti nue to s upport the R.R .C. as we have in the past but we feel that if It comes to the point where we hav e to pay a $20 assessme nt, that is unfai r an d unj us t, to get r td of the de ad weight or be dr opped from the R.R .C ., then we prefer to be dr opped. The deci s ion is yours ." Then There Were 17 The club then moved to vote on the bylaw change that woul d drop fr om RRC me mbers hi p those clubs that had not ye t paid their $20 assessme nt . During the roll call vote , the Rainbows r eps made notes of who ca s t the 23 ayes and 10 noe s . " We ' ll not be s uppor ti ng many r uns nex t year," s aid one Rainbow as the motion pa s s ed • . When Chai r man Jo nes ann ounced the r esult, ab out a dozen Califor nia Rainbows rose from their chairs and quie tly fli ed out of the stor e, pu shed their motorcycles out to the alley before s tarting the m s o as not todts tur b the me eti ng, and took their leave of the RRC . Ten other cl ubs a uto ma ti cally lost their me mbership when the motion pa s s ed . Chair man Jone s was unable to co ntact oper a ti on Motorcycle co - chai r man Ken Jones by either telephone or messenger. The Stod dard family had finally r eceived their blood (af te r 8 mon ths), and the Jaspers reported that Larry Le wis ( the origi na tor of Oper a ti on Motorcycle an d a co -chairman) had refused to is s ue the Jaspers blood . Denni s Lau s che (Nor walk Cen taurs ) reported that Le wis had mi staken the Jaspers for a Spor ts Committee Cl ub (who are evidently a no- no when it com es to blood). Th is time the RRC put its coll ec ti ve foot (feet?) down - and hard - on a motion by Big Daddy Miller . Unless Larry Lewis i mmed ia tely gives up his chairman s hi p an d allows complete control of Ope r a ti on Motor cycle t o be exercised by the RRC, each RRC me mber will with draw their ac cu mulated blood on an indi vi dual basis and the RRC will start a new bl ood bank. Unofficial results show Bill Baird Overall High PoinI winner on a 500cc Triumph with a score of 959 . 0-20Dec Class A was won by Tom Penton on a IOOcc Penton Bershire and O-I OOcc Class B was also won by a Penton Bershire, ridden by Craig Maxwell. The 100-2oocc Class B winner was Mike Blackburn on a Pen Ion 6-Day 125cc, 200cc-400cc Class A went to John PenIon on a 360cc Husquvarna and the Senior Class was won by Sal Scirpo on a Harley-Davidson Sprint 350cc. This event put Bill Baird in good position to retai n th e National 'Championship ' he perennially wins.
