Here are some rather weirdly named brands of motorcycle that were actually built and .s o ld , and probably gave their owners just as much pleas ure as the familiar brands of today. Sept. 25, 1968 - The heroes of Wednesday night's short track at Or ange County Speedway were Jimmy Raymond In the 100cc class and Stan Rogers In the 250cc class . Jimmy captured the 100cc Main Event and Trophy Dash and Stan Rogers repeated the wins In the 250cc events . Nelth Jim nor Stan had an easy time of It however . Keith Mashburn and Chris Sml th gave Ji mmy a lot of trouble In the 100cc Main . A fellOW who Just started flattracklng and carne out of the TT events was R .W. Ring fr om San Diego on a Yam aha. To everyo ne' s surprise, Ring fi nished fourth In the IOOcc Main and did It qui te handily, beatin g out old ti mers such as RandY Layn e and Ran dy Ellis. In the 250cc MaIn, In s ec ond place was Randy El11s on hi s Bultaco and right bebind Randy, co min g on strong In the finis hi ng laps was Bob Ba ll e y on bts Honda. ACA flattrackers and TT riders will hav e two mor e meetings this season, and the events will conclude on Oct ober 7th . (Short track res ul ts on page 16) the Pento n Works Team from Amherst , 0., ran off with the ballgame. The Pento n Team, consisting of Leroy Wmters, Tom Penton, John Penton , and Ed Towne, won th e High Point Team Overall Trophy . Lero y Winters captured the individual overaD hicll poin t on a l2Sce Penton, Tom Penton, piloting a 100ce Penton Berkshire, won first place in the IOOcc Class and Joh n Penton , also riding a Penton 125, took home the Open class win and second over all. This is really a fantastic performan ce when you realize that there are only two classes at the Corduroy ; lOOcc and below and Open class, which includes everyth ing from 10Icc to infinity. It might also be taken into consideration that John took a tumble after the first forty miles and rode the rest of the race with a broken collar-bone, Canadian Bill Sharpless won the special hill climb section on a 250cc Bultaco Metisse, John Penton set fast time on the five-mile cross-country race and William Peck of Latham, Mass. and John Penton both cleaned the special trials section.
