LAGUNA, Cal. - The 4th A nnual Laguna T our gi ven by the Road Cr ui sers M.C . of San Die go, was quite suc cessful cons idering the fact that a torrential rain f ell upon the area during the ni ght, and continued on into the next day . The avidenthuslastsdidnot l et this bother them , however , for they stood in the down-pour during the field events , their only concern being f or their machines. Ev en as the j Udging was goi ng on, many of the ten ts were being swamped with a gushing stream of mUddy water fr om the hillsides, but spirits never 1e sse ned and laughter rang throughout the forest. As quickly as possible, the events were flnl shed and everyone returned to The Blue Jay Lodge, owned and operated by a wonderful man named Tom Huntington. On Saturday, f ollowing sign-ins, the Huntlngtons put on a mouth-watering fe ed of either fried chicken or fish with au the trimmings. Later i n the evening, a band was furnished for a real stomping dance until wee hours of the morning , at which time everyone went to their respective camp-sites on the private ranch of the Huntlngtons. If y ou' v e never gone on an overnighter, y ou don't know what you're m issing - especlally in thund er, lightening and rain. On Sunday, as the daylight hours ap- preached, with r olling fo g and more " abundant dew," ev eryone fe ll out of their pads full of vim and v i gor . A ll sor ts of desc r iptive "yodel s " could be heard for miles, but nothing daunted the dripping affair. Upon completion of the ev en ts, and when everyone had r eturned to the lodge, cups of steami ng hot java wer e served, a special appreciation trophy wen t to Mr . Huntington , and the fo llowing trophy awards were presented: Male solo: Frank A upper l ee of the Oakland East Bay Wheels on a BMW. F emale solo- Ann Melanson of the Singi ng Wheels in San Di ego, on a Honda 350. First place passenger: Nellie Ros endale of the A ztecs. Second place passenger: Charl ene Pablot!, an out-rider. Oldest machine ridden all the way : Th omas M eacham on a ' 33 Harley ; of the ·Mary' s Men in San Diego. Sweepstakes award went to Eugene Laff erty of the Picific Coasters . Special awards Went to the fo llowing: Youngest AMA r i der: Terry L. Rosen dale, age 16, of the AZtecs, was award- ed a merchan dise certificate donated by Sonny A ngel s Shop in National Ci ty . M ost Congenial fema!e: Darl ene Cam pbell of the Singing Wheels was awarded a merchandise certificate donated by Lemon Grove Honda. Most Congeni al male: Ken Allen in the Mescaleros of Southern Callf., was giv en a Parker pen & pencil set. The f ollowing dealers gave cash donations a r eal boon to the small cl ubs of our ~ea: Brattin Motors, Vesco Cycle Sales, Chuck Holenda Harley, San Diego House of Honda, San Diego Harley Shop, Grove Kawasaki, Honda of San Diego, Motor cycle Equipment, Stan Bryan, Valley Motorcycle Sales , L ucky Yamaha, South Bay Yamaha and Floyd Emde. The r e were approximately 175 people on this r un, r epresenting clubs from au over the state. Finishing second to him in the TT was Tom Heard (Hodaka) and in the Short Track i t was Tom Op sahl (Allstate) . He wasn 't so f or tuna te i n the T rophy Dashes which pit Junior and Seni or r iders togeth er as Paul Wilde ( Yam aha) went wil d . and beat out the seemi ngl y eternal TT Trophy Dash winner Gary Bail ey (Hodaka) and cam e right back to win the 100cc Short Track Trophy Dash. Paul also topped the Senior Shor t T r ack Main Event wi th Dal e Hopkins (Suzuki) fln ishing sec ond. SO. GATE, Bailey Blasts Seniors In th e 100cc Senior TT Main Ev ent, Bailey got his r evenge for the Trophy Dash loss as he beat out Wilde fo r the win . Th ird place went to Jack Mo rgan (Hodaka). 1'.,..... . ,.. I INTENSIFY II Bailey (Gr eeves) is still the man to beat as he copped the 250cc Trophy Dash win ahead of Wilde ( Yam aha) and then came back to win the 250cc Senior TT Main Event, again ahead of second place Wilde, thus making his revenge complete, Taking home the gold in the 250cc Junior TT Main was T i m Hart ( C- Z) with second place going to L arry Shoemaker ( Bultac o) with Ji m 0 ' Neal (Bultaco) taking third.
