Fellow Harley rider Daner Dovel wound up 2nd. The Expert Ma.tn Event was won by Carlson, second went to Dovel, and #66r Walt Fulton took third. All three were mounted on Harley-Davidsons, the latter a new model belonging to Chicago tuner Gene HarWne, now wintering in sunnier climes. Neil Keen, Nat 'l #10, tried a couple of mounts in practice but didn't perform , Dick Mann won his heat, the Dash, and was leading the Ma.tn until his primary case cover tell oft and the chain jammed. The slldlest hal!-mile track in Calltornta enjoyed the presence of top local riders, a 1a r g e crop of Southern Calltornla talent, pl us many national stars such as National Number One, Gary Nixon, #2 Dick Mann, #73 Sid Carlson, #45 Darrel Dovel and many more. And , It enthusiasm by the younger set tor the first meet Is any yardstick, the second meet should be another roaring success , The tlrst meet was held Sept. 8 here on specially prepared m1nI-scrambl es and minl-hillclimb courses. Nearly 30 youngsters compe ted , with parents cheering trom the sidelines in Little League tashlon. The mini-meet entrants were divided into class es according to their age and horsepower, and prizes were awarded to all winners and runners-up, Age classes are 6-8 years, 9-11, 12-14 and 14-over; power classes were 1-3, 4-6and7-over. 5addleback Park president Vic Wilson said the same class l! lcati on system would be used in the Oct . 13 meet. Young Zac Meaklm showed up with the most spectacular rig, a 22-hp McCulloch powered mini-bike, and despite haVing s ome mechanical d1filculty in the scrambles , went on to win the hlllclimb by an astonishing margin.
