IT II CYCLE IEWS Hunti ngton Beach is tb1s Sunday, sept. 29. If you approach the track going tawards the oceaD oa Golden West watch closely for the left band turn oato Talbert. You could miss it easily as l t'spart--.y up the b1ll. Swl.Dgsfor the IddsbaTebeen ins talled now, and the owners say everything else is under control. There will be problems but they can be handled. What do the riders who haTe been on the course saY? we'n just quote Jim Goldsmith. " Neat.", II LAICASTElIT'S TIle Rules Bit At Penis Right now we'll say we don 't want to get involved with who said what to whom or who told who they could r ide one class or two classes. This i s for the Competiti on Co mmi ttee to handle. Whatbappened is Tony Demus rode his 350 Harley in the 500 Exper t class as he does so often and took a third place. Then he also s howed up for the 350 clas s whic h abruptly brought an uproar fr om some of the 21- inch riders- an d friends . Deni us was cllsquaillied for the day. C.H. Whea t cin a 360 Malco signed up for the Open Class an d must have made s ome of the troops really quiver, he went so fa st. But Wheat was di squalIfied for en tering the 360 in the Open Clas s when he should bave entered the 500 class. C.H., howev er, wanted to prove his poin t about the s peed of his bike (and discussed wbat class he wished to ride with the club ahead of time and was a gentl eman about the whol e thing). But after Ton y was set . down, Wheat' s dtsqualrfcatton followed . Now we wonder what is going to happen to John Rice ? He did the s ame thi ng as Whea t by riding a higher class when there was a 350 class for him to ride. No comment fr om us as t o wha t we think is fai r, only that if one man gets s e t down then all who br eak the rule should be, an d if one is allowed to get by with an infraction of. a rule, then ever yone s hould. Each of these racers can be judged under slightly differ ent circums tances and we'll clarify the s ituation on the rule through the Competition Committee a nd Refer ee Sam , crooks , Rules us ually upheld are: 1) ' You 'cannot enter the , same motorcycle in two different classes. 2) You may move up a class oniy if there is no class for your machine to compete in. 3) Experts ride with Experts, Amateurs ride with Ama teurs and if there are not enough in your class then yo u move up to the next division.
