Ole twin-engine Trlmnph, Boris Murray. One 74-lnch " Knuckle-Head" Harley-Davidson, Joe Smith. One twInengine two-stroke, Bob Braverman and one single-engine 4O-Inch TrIumph, Bob Ebeling. No one with a machIne equal In brand or displacement has appeared 00 the scene for some time. We know there are some around and yet they must feel defeated at home, fOr not a one has appeared to challenge for a spot as top contender In displacement and brand. Each of the four machines and riders I have listed are eager and wIll1ng to accept any or all challenges. Is It true that they are undefeatable ? We may never know, for It seems that all d. the mice scurry for cover when the top cats are around. Ma.tch Race Each week It's a racing series between the same machines and this gets a l1tt1e hard on a spectator's flair for racing action. The fir st change we see In the Immedia te future I s a scheduled two-outof- three match race between Joe Smith and Leo Payne, both Harley-DavidsoD mounted. ThI s match wi ll take place at lrwindale Raceway 00 saturday, oct. 5th. A second chang e will be the return d. Sonny Raslawsld, that man we know stepped off a Hawlln Harley Fueler for a stint wi th Uncle Sam. His stay will be for a short 30 days and he will then have to r eturn for his tInaI days as a U.S. Government Employee. Two machines are in vaitous stages d. compl etion. Jim Cook Is buUdIng a single engine Triumph and Gorden KateIy Is assembling a Sporlster, but both machi nes have been In the developing stages for - already elongated periods. It's anyone's guess when they will appear • What this all bolls down to, Is that Ebeling, Braverman, Smith and Murray are c!ulJlenglDg. Any takers? ThIs column bas been 011 Cycle News pages for nearlY three years and I have many fIDe reports In the form of complimenlo that the column Is weeklY read. Those wonderful words are sweet to my ear, but they do nothing to convince my editor and publisher that the space Is worthwblle. Only OIIe thing can achieve that end: SUBSCRIPTIONSlI If this weaklY column Is valuable to you as I brazenIy presume, then add your name and address In Cycle News c1rculatloo rosterl By J .K .
