With all the Dis trict 38 Open Expert hots hoes on hand, an exciting afternoon of cl ose for mation scrambling was promised . The Earl Roloff- tuned Triumph ' that poin t leader AI Finan rides, was still not In run ning shape and Al was mounted on Earl' s second string bike, a yell ow Nor ton known as " The Iron Pig ." Myr on Carter, last year' s point champ, looked Impressive In practice a s did Trfumphmounted Don Finan and BSA pilot Earl Barker. Wayne Hosaka, riding Mike Garrett's BSA Gold Star, who has been plagued with bad luc k of late was obviously taking It easy in his practice laps getting the fee l of hi s completely rebuilt mount after his crash at Tijuana last week. In the firs t s eries of motos, Tom Lively fell off his 450 Honda and the ambulance had to take him to the hosp ital. He regained consciousness In the ambulance and as he Is a s ervice man, r eques ted to be taken to the Balboa Naval Hospital which Is about 20 miles from the track. Racing was suspended for the hour that the em ergency equipment was away. During the lull, a wheelle contest was held and the winner was Trtumphmounted Myron Carter. Unfortunately he damaged his front end during the contest and was unable to get his bike on the li ne for the start of the Open Expert hassle.
