BIG BEAR, cal., July 5-6 - For the fif th
year straight, the friendly peopl e of Big
Bear welcom ed the Topper s Motor cycle
Club of Fontana and over 500 r ider s on
the annual Scenic Tour to Big Bear.
It was raining ca ts and dogs Friday,
when som e of the rider s rolled Into
Good Luc k Campground near Fawnsldn
on the nor th shore of the Lake. Lucidly,
my partner and 1 waited until Saturday
morning to ride up the hill. Even with
the thr eate ning s ides, 480 r ider s signed
in before the 2:00 p.m . deadline July 6.
The Topper s did their bit to Impr ove the
Image of moto rcycling by a warding a
trophy to the r esidents of the bes t appearing cam psite s . The best club ca mpsite trophy was s nagged by a new club,
the "Outrider s." The Gardner s , Tiny and
Emma, won best family site.

The Ace of Clubs Drill Team staged
another of their thrilling performances,
foll owed by Judging of the best dres sed
club, fam ily , and couple . Following a
meal at Meadow Park on the south shore
of the Lake, came the presentation of
so me of the many trophies . However, It
was cut short by mor e rain, and finished
Sunday morning.
Saturday night, the r ain kept most
r iders unusually quiet. A break In the
weather late at night bro ught so me of us
out of our tents to watch the broken sid es,
kill another pot of coffee , and tell a fe w
campfire stories. But soon the rain took
over again, and It was ZZ Z ti me for sure.

After a good breakfast Sunday morning,
many r iders fearing mor e rain, left for
home , only to r un right Into It on the way

wer e awarded to r iders and passengers
In four different classes. The total points
sys te m was us ed, which guaran tees an
even distribution of trophies . Events for
the r iders Incl uded a slow race, an
obstacle course, and the good old plank
r ide. Pass enger s competed in the ring
toss , and weiner bite contes ts. When It
was allover, forty different people rode
down the hill with field event gold .
Next year be on hand for the 6th Annual Big Bear Scenic Tour. See you then .
