Sprague got in some good averl1sing by winning the 250 Expert trophy on a Bnltaco which sported a large " F or Sale" sign. Ellis racked up more points by finishing second in this class ahead of third ptace V. Hannon. The 350 Nov1ce thing was a hassle between A . IDrvflelang"s Booda and O. RJdI's DucatI. The Honda took the win on points with Rich secaod and L. Bach- bTlbird. E . Walker wailed to a win in the 500 Norice bast1 for his first of three tropbies for the eftIIing. A. Ellis Again The 200 Novice class bad a bit of spice added as Elsinore point leader R. E1lls put this class on his list of l:bings to win. After feeling the bike out in the first moto, he cam e back strong in the next two to finish second behind M. Uttle who was also riding a Bultaco Sberpa. R . Lockwood broke up a Bul sweep by finishing third on a Honda. There was 110 "gettlng used to the bike" for E1lls in the 250 Novke class W alker Wails Waller continued his winning _ys by t:aking Open Novice gold witll desert JacJa'aJ:Jbit member B. Tondro second. O'Neal, on the bearded Matchless, again took third. The 500 Expert a1IaJ.r was almost an exact rerun witll Walker first. R. Vanderpool second, and O'Neal third. The Open Expert go saw hard-riding J. Foxe win aboard his hIack and white Triumph with J . sprague second. Foxe also won the Sweepstakes trophy breaking Sprague's win streak in this event. IDs win on a 650 Triumph was the first big bike victory in a coon' s age. The hardworking stmnpjumpers will throw a points eventat Elsinore JnIy 13t1l and it should be a good one if tbefr last race is any indication. The turnout should be a large ODe, as many astrict 37 riders are anxious for a rematch after last week' s Gripster event. June 26 - Paul Wilde (Yamaha) looked like his old self again at theTrojan~shorttracJt. as he took his heat bandily, but Jimmy Raymond (Snznki) also topped his heat. aDd JImmy is the boy who bas been dealing high-point man Paul W11de such a bard time for the last f ew weeks• This moved both of tIl em i nto the Trophy Dash along with the third heat race winner Chuck saxton (Honda). In the Dash, Wilde, who usually gets such beauliM starts, got off the line badly while saxton did a wheelie. This left a wid e open field f or Raymond and fry as he would, Wilde couldn't catch him i n three laps so Jimmy took hi s tbfrd T .D. in a row. When it came lime for the Main Eve n4 Wilde was r eady and as the flag was dropped, he charged Into the first corner and emerged on top with Oln Hazel (Yamaha) 2nd, Raymond 3r d. Raymond worked his way around Hazel i n the third lap and tIlen tried to catch up to Wilde, but had to settle for 2nd with Hazel taking 3rd. Ron Typer ( Moio-Beta) worked up to 4th ahead of ·Joe Ambrose (SlIZUki). New Rider Night The 250Cc looked like new rider night with seven new entries in tile class, and four of them made it to the Main Event. The first indication tbat the regular riders were in trouble was in tile Trophy Dasb as Jolm Sprague (Bultaco) witll a smooth display of shotttracking ability c1eaDed up on saxton (Honda) and Loyal Penn (Bnltaco). in the Ma:In. a pile- up In the second corner caused a restart as Jim Posey bad to throw bis Yamaha down to avoid a fa1len rider, but no one was injured aDd everyone made It back to the line. On the second try. Sprague took the lead with saxton 2nd and Mike Mumford(Bultaco) 3rd. Afterfour laps, Mumford made a bid on the inside of saxton for 2nd, and was able to go by hefore saxton closed the gate . The north corner was plagued with fallen r iders as the Main progressed with Frank Barrena (Bultac o), Loyal Penn (Bultaco) and Jim Posey (Yamaha) all having their share of adhesion problems. Sprague wound lIP tile winner with Mumford, who hails trom Des Moines, 10ft., in 2nd place slot. Third ~ Chuck -, Saxton and 4t1l went to Don Finley (Yamaha). As the list of riders grows, the show becomes more exciting.
